Yes, Class III receivers are rated 5k lb tow weight but the same hitch is also rated at 6,000 lb with a WD hitch. Just look at the manufacturers specs. etrailer.com is usually a good source for all things tow related. I cannot comment on the Timbrens. But most seem happy except for the cost.

There's a bit of a drawback with the cross member hitch receiver, the safety pin has to be inserted at the back of the cross member which
makes it a bit of a hassle to always crawl under the vehicle to change accessories... I thought its just worth to mention.

I bought mine here, good price and fast shipping ( to Taiwan )

I looked into going the through bumper mount to keep the tucked rear for clearance but ended up getting a frame mount due to the stories of not being able to attach accessories with the cross-member style. Looks like your bike rack works fine.

Is there a different style rear cross member for the early 100 vs the later? I have never seen this set up on anything but later LX's and a few 05-07 Cruisers.

I’m trying to add a receiver to my cross member for accessories not towing. First does the member have to have a through hole? I have a 295 75 16 tucked up there so there is an inch or less of space anyway. Pretty sure the p.o. took off bumper mount hitch to fit the spare.

Google "Pintle pattern hitch receiver"

No, not dumb... I think there are several "Pintle bolt patterns." Measure the dimensions on your cruiser. I "think" it is supposed to be 3 3/8" x 1 3/4"

The Amazon product you linked is more square-ish.

I thought you just made is so easy! Ya not dumb; I did notice it’s 3-3/8x1-3/4. There in lies the problem. I cannot for the life of me find a receiver with that bolt pattern! There must be something I’m understanding about the engineering of it all.

Any idea if the earlier years of the lx can use this with a modified bumper cover? I have a 99 lx and would love to take off the boat anchor hitch that I use for my rack.

I put this one from Cool Cruisers on my 100 to haul my bike rack. Hitch Receiver ~ FJ40 ~ Bolt-On

It’s very stout, doubles as a useful step for getting stuff on and off the roof rack, and by cutting a small notch in the lower part of the bumper cover I was able to reinstall the cover over the hitch.

Can anyone point me where to get a frame mounted / bolted type of hitch receiver for a 2006 LX470? Saw one in Etsy but it says for Gx470 and it doesn’t specify the hole measurements.
Took off the rear OE bumper and I plan to bolt on an OEM or aftermarket female hitch receiver and I just couldn’t find one on the interwebs. Any leads/source is appreciated.
Here are the dimensions

85mm x 42mm is the hole dimension, anything close to this I can just modify the holes to match them.
Top holes are threaded with I believe M12 x 1.25, bottom ones are not so this will be a nut and bolt type of fastener. I have accepted my fate of cutting a square hole in the bumper. Primary use is to transport our mountain bikes.

That bolt pattern is for the pintle style hitch, not a receiver tube. The only factory receiver was the LX style here:

Something like post 31 above Hitch Receiver, OEM Through Bumper - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/hitch-receiver-oem-through-bumper.1008802/post-13152207 is about your only option for a bolt on choice, unless you go with an under bumper frame mount.

Good write up and thanks for sharing how you did yours. The 06 and 07 LX iteration is identical. I am exploring all options including the last and expensive route of an aftermarket with swing outs (dissent). I had to drop my OE hitch receiver to make fit my 35” spare tire and now I missing all the benefits of having a hitch receiver when I drive this car. I was able to find one and ordered this earlier, the measurements are close and I’ll report back soon and see if I can make this work.

I used that receiver on version 1.0 of mine. It is porous and absolute garbage. With my bike rack mounted and two bikes loaded up it allowed that part of the crossmember to flex and it was beginning to fatigue- after just one trip. I created a complicated "bolt on" solution that no doubt works but if I had to do it over again I'd just get an inexpensive 2" receiver and have it welded directly through the crossmember.

Thanks for sharing bud, this receiver I got is cast iron type, really heavy. I might go to that same route you did if this flexes as well and will definitely return this. I reached out to my local fab guy the other day and he recommended I try this out first, if this doesn’t work we’ll go full wrap around weld with a steel female receiver. Not feeling the need yet of a 4 grand AM rear bumper yet.

The part worked out well and I guess time will tell if the factory rear cross member and hitch receiver will hold up with my bikes.

Except it's mounted upside down. :)
