Think I'm gonna do my ham test soon as well, couple diff reasons to do it now.
supposed to be real easy to pass test now
Wish I could use my existing radio telephone license. I hate tests but really want to be able to ham.

@jasonbraswell can you take the test online now? Last time I looked (3 or so years ago) I had to drive to NoLA to take it...
I think there are 35 questions and, of those, you have to get 70% (or maybe 75%) of them right.
No license required to listen - only in broadcast mode.
For good humor, you should watch some of the youtube videos that the Hammers put out on "Ham Life" and getting licensed. If you don't have the time, just picture older dudes with Ben Franklin mullets in pony tails eating funyuns in their mom's basement, and bitching that the newbies don't have learn morse code.

That's about all I know until I go through the process. Digdug and Heather are certified experts now...

First up on Saturday was Mineral Creek Trail, which takes you upto California Pass trailhead and then to Corkscrew Pass.
Mineral Creek trail probably has the most obstacles of any trail we do. It's a steady uphill climb from Hwy550 to the California Pass trailhead. Lots of rock obstacles and very slow going.

As a related aside, I've always gotten a kick out of Colorado roads (even the highways). Unlike almost every other mountainous area of the country, Colorado doesn't waste any money building those pesky guardrails.......(Hwy 550, south of Ouray)
That's so they can push the snow off the cliff (as it was explained to me anyways). Snowplowing is a dangerous job up there.

Someone went off the cliff last month. They didn't find him until a week later. The road from camp into ouray is a 1 lane right now. Apparently they are putting up a few guard rails in the bad spots.

Animas Forks, an old mining operation, was our next stop. Half a dozen buildings there, all original and open to walk through.

From Animas Forks it's about 45 minutes through some awesome terrain up to California pass. At almost 13k feet, the views up there are pretty unreal.
There was a ton of snow on the ground. Literally everywhere once you got above tree line.
