Greetings Hive Mind,

I have a 1997 FZJ80 that is fairly new to me. On the highway when I stomp the gas (as in passing a semi) it seems like the overdrive downshift effect occurs normally but then quickly I lose a lot of power.

Does this symptom seem familiar to anyone and if so- what would be the layman's things to check out before taking it to a real mechanic.

I have no check engine light and the Automatic smart phone OBD gizmo shows no codes either.

Many thanks in advance.

Fuel filter!

Or plugged cat

I was going to suggest those above as well......BUT my real reason for looking at this thread was to find out what "High Speed" meant in a 80 series!! 65? :hmm:

Anything over 100?

Thanks for the replies. IF I told you that I blew the head gasket last summer would that make you lean towards a plugged Cat?

No. I'd say you missed a great time to swap the fuel filter.

Fuel sock/Fuel filter would be my first guess too.

Test that theory by running wide open throttle and let it get close to redline before shifting up. You don't have to be on the freeway to test max fuel supply.
