Hi, just thought I'd share the cost of getting rebuilt injectors for my 1HD-T from Hi-Flo in Australia. The benefit of using Hi-Flo is that (a) they are very experienced and (b) they are willing to take a core deposit and ship rebuilt injectors before you take your old ones out. So the truck was only down for ~2 hours while I did the swap.

Mastercard charge in CAD: 2,685.47
Mastercard core refund: -1,822.85
Tax & duty: 136.05
Shipping old injectors back: 111.21

$1,109.88 total

The bad news, is the rebuilt injectors did nothing for my smoke problem :bang:

Um... well I did call around. I could only find one place in BC with the required equipment to rebuild two-stage injectors. The cost was quoted somewhere around $1000 + HST. And I would be without my injectors (therefore without a running vehicle) for a couple weeks. So from Hi-Flo, I didn't have to live without a vehicle, I got possibly "better service" from a shop which rebuilds these injectors "often", and it was the same cost, if not cheaper.

The previous owner had my fuel pump rebuilt and calibrated (locally) so I don't believe that is a problem. I have also rebuilt my turbo and installed a breather hose catch can. The only thing left that I can think of is the oil rings... Compression is perfect.

Well Mr. Nathaniel.... that blows. At least you are narrowing down the possibilities for Andrew. You are such a nice guy to do that for him.

Hey, on the bright side, I have nice newly rebuilt injectors which will likely outlast my truck :) And Andrew did hook me up with his old pyrometer, so I might try tweaking my pump timing to see if that changes the smoke. I didn't want to adjust anything away from "stock" without a pyro to keep an eye on things.

You say previous owner rebuilt pump? where he have it done? Did they actually rebuild it or change seals? got receipt? How was the timing set? Its great that you got injectors, but are they stock and they are not the ones you had so you have changed a variable. And how and when are we getting smoke, at idle, of idle normal driving? Has any of the changes you made changed anything?

Correct me if I'm wrong Nathaniel, but you have the exact same symptoms I have?

I feel like doing this everytime I drive around town: :bang: It smokes on idle, after warm, it smokes during accel, it smokes... all the time. Way worse when in a drive gear, vs. in neutral or park. When completely warm and in P, the smoke is almost completely gone. But stick it in D, and... it's back.:mad::mad:

I would love to take the truck to ATEB... getting over to the mainland and having the time to do so is more complicated. I may have to just go over by myself one of these weekends and eat the $200 :censor::censor::censor::censor: ferry bill.

:bang:

They all smoke give or take a little, it's a nature of the beast... Just drive it and be happy!

honestly it was probably a very good thing to get your injectors done.
I would try and get the pump looked at by ateb. They can tune it correctly and hopefully get it to smoke less.

N and andrew, have you guys done your valves before?

And Black smoke is unburnt fuel not white. Just watch the idiots with the dodges and chips that stomp on it all that extra fuel going out the tail pipe, but they look cool. Which color is yours.

Had the valve lash checked, it was Ok.

The smoke is white/grey/tinge of blue. Smells of diesel. Don't use any coolant or oil.

Which is it andrew white/grey/blue. Are you just looking out your side view? or are you following when someone else drives?

Looking out my side view, or leaning out my window. Or standing beside it when it's in Park. If I had to pick one colour, I'd say it's grey.

I've adjusted the fuel screw a lot before (attempting to remediate the issue) and have turned it down to the point there is no power and it has issues starting. The amount of black smoke on accel changes, but the "grey" smoke haze doesn't change.

When I first imported it, it blew a lot of black on accel - do to the fact someone had done just that - cranked up the main fuel screw.

Oh - and Nathaniel and I have checked the IP timing. It's fine too.
