I'm not exactly sure - every step of this project is a learning experience. How can I identify it as such?

Bottom style has the DC joint on the left, top has the single ujoint. Which image does your front driveshaft look like?
 
Those leaf springs (pic in post #37) look awfully short... (?)

I would expect the axle to swing forward considerably if you moved the jacks stands underneath it (put weight of the truck on the springs)...but to my eye, they just look too short.

Compare the shackle angle on your truck to the "donor frame section" pic above it. Something's not right, but I'm thinking it's with the springs (length, hanger locations?), and not the driveshaft.

Springs in backwards?
Frame mounts in correct locations?
The axle will swing but not 2.5". Maybe 3/4" at the most

bottom one. I guess it could have been modified by the previous owner who was working on setting this thing up for SOA. At this point I'll take the driveshaft out and get a proper measurement in order to see how it compares to stock, unmodified early 60 driveshafts.
