Form a trust. Have the trust own the decibel reducer. Ive wanted to do that for a long time just havent gotten my "roundtoits" caught up.

2f have you tried low report ammo, sounds like a pellet literally.
I can't think of the name right now but I have a buddy that uses it in his hood for squirrel reduction.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning suppressors. You do have to wait and the government knows you own it, but that is it. I guess you could give the trust a fancy name like Overland Outdoors Trust and then remove your name from the trust someday, but it won't matter, if THEY want to find you, they will track that down and find you.

THEY have my fingerprints, DNA, pumped me full of anthrax vaccine and who knows what else so maybe I'm brainwashed like the Manchurian Candidate or something :)

Fancy term is Subsonic.

You may have to wait just as long to receive that as it would take to complete your paperwork for a sound suppressor. The only purpose for the trust would be so you can pass it down to your offspring. Still have to give all your info, and they can still knock on your door for a friendly visit.

Have to check out Econo Can http://www.guns.com/2012/08/07/oil-filter-suppressor/

I can check some sounds levels on the Subsonic vs Hyper velocity, see if there's much difference. But I can tell you that some of these pellet guns are just as loud.

Look for Aguila colibri ammo. It won't cycle a semi auto, but at close ranges it is more deadly and makes less noise than a pellet gun.

They also make a sniper subsonic load that has a 60 grain bullet. They make a little more noise, but will take a squirrel down.

Key is close range. I got a box of subsonic and it is accurate to about 50 feet. I am typically shooting at 100 to 125 feet, so it will not work for me.

I have a HWS pellet gun, that has better range than the subsonic rounds.

Tried the sniper subsonic, started dropping at 25yds, only 3dB(A) less than 22LR Hi-Velocity. Cycled fine in an unmodified 10/22, I'll try the other stuff.

Tried the pellet gun too, negligible drop at 25yds, with slightly less sound. Tried a suppressed 9x19, louder than everything. May try using some more sensitive equipment to see what results are gleaned. Think you're gonna have to get a fancy can for that thing.

Steel wool anyone?

Steel wool anyone?

If you meant has anyone used steel wool to construct a device to diminish the report of a firearm, the answer is no. No one posting here has ever violated the National Firearms Act of 1934 by constructing a silencer without first receiving an approved BATF form 5320.1. If they had filled one out and gotten one approved, they would go ahead and make a suppressor with solid baffles for durability.

It's easier and not much more expensive to just purchase one already made. I second the recommendation to form a trust for such purposes for many reasons.

Had a little free time, so tried the Aguila Super Colibri and Colibri (both of which are for handguns only BTW). Little better equipment this time so tried the others as well. The Colibri stuff is super quiet, averaged 38 dB(A) less than the subsonic, never got lodged, but definitely confirmed a target impact before the next one (could actually hear it hit the paper in most cases).

Problem is going to be drop. At just 30' the average drop was 1". However, if you sighted it in, knew your changes, could go back and forth.

Cheapest option, get a ghillie suit, go all Tom Berenger sniper on the tree rats.

Deal Overview
199Trust.com is a document creation service that creates NFA / Gun Trust documents at the specific direction of our customers.199trust has become a leader in helping people create these documents, and is the leader in affordability, historically these types of documents cost gun owners $500 or more to create. However please know 199trust.com is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, if you need legal assistance or are unclear of the laws in your state, you should contact a local lawyer before purchasing our trust documents.

Here are some of the popular reasons that make our customers want to setup a gun trust for themselves:

1. They want the ability to have multiple people (Co-Trustees) to be allowed to use the items that are in the trust.

2. They do not want to have to do fingerprint cards

3. They do not want to hassle with getting their chief law enforcement officer's signature

4. They want to have a clear written plan (similar to a will) of who will be beneficiaries of the trust.

Please visit 199trust.com or call us at 888-442-4307 for more information about our service.

Sounds like we can do one document and have several items in this trust. Co trustees can then use these items.

May I be a part of your trust? Thought I'd try...

Who needs a gun, then :) - - just sneak up behind them and finish 'em off with a hatchet!

Thanks to this post and other feedback, I am going with a trust for the new "Class 3" products. Working with an attorney for about $250.

Going to go with the Thunder Beast 22S-1 (4") for the Ruger, and the TB 30PL for the 308.
