Your finally building a buggy.

cool.. but honestly I was pulling for the 80 to get all those parts :frown:

I'm over it. So what's the plan. ..

IFS front ..is this a go fast rig?

hopefully. We will see how the build turns out.

IFS rock crawlers are still in their infancy but IFS (and IRS perhaps) has so much potential. Not just to go fast but to traverse nasty rock. Look at how gracefull Campbells IFS rig comes down waterfalls. Rick Deremo built that wicked IFS rock racer that won the XRRA opener last year. he has given me some great pointers for this build. I asked him how the rig does in steep, nasty stuff. He says that IFS hugs Steep off camper stuff like solid axles cant-just stays on the rock-not near as much bounce.

Perhaps Ill regret going IFS and yank it out for a solid axle.

Biggest problem with IFS is that there isn't yet an affordable aftermarket IFS assembly that you can purchase except the Pro am front end. Pro am wants $20k + for that front end and they wont sell it ala carte-i tried. (campbell, penhard racing, and a new pirate build are forking out the cash already) I dont believe a beefy front indapendent axle assembly can be built for less than $10K with what parts are currently out there. someone needs to make one.

And people need to stop doing SAS conversions. go long arm and beefier cvs

i'm not crapping on your plan here- just asking a question because i don't know anything about ifs....but why not use ifs in the rear too? and how about the 1 ton ifs that's in gm trucks could it be adapted for this sort thing?

rear indapendent will require a transaxle like desert racers which will cause 2 problems: engine is way in back destroying departure and transaxles with 4wd are $$$$ (15k for base transaxle). there is the option of front engined IFS IRS but now the front end is heavy hwich will likely hurt high speed stuff that ifs does so well.

there is a guy on pirate building a front engines ifs now

One ton chevy IFS spindles from what I have read have 3 shortfalls: they use ball joints, their cv's cant handle big rubber, and they have weak unit bearings. RCV makes a killer pro4 cv for these trucks. If I did it again I may have gone with chevy parts but with how much this stuff costs might as well go all the way

what about mid engine and just run d-shafts to front and rear ifs setups? i hope you do a build thread on this, should be killer.....are you thinking of trying to get it KOH in the future?

actually thought about that. only issue is the occupants would be sitting right out front of car. might work

Am considering KOH LCQ 2011.

I am calling navigator or at least chase rig with parts!

I don't know, after your first test drive in the hummer and having it not start at the auto store (then having to tow it home with a rope), I would be more worried about your rigs than mine.

Ha Ha HA HA Are you kidding me? Tow it home with a rope? LOL! Must of been embarrassing!

Ricks 80 runs 37's, airbumps, and resevoir shocks

the combination is so controlled on the big rocks-does not appear bounce at all comin off a rock at speed. consequently the truck can wheel so fast while being controlled-a testament to proper suspension tuning.

and fab is just sick. must be seen to appreciate-intercooled supercharger, sick armour, etc

while Rick was out hiking we got his truck a little stuck....and unstuck

dusy trip 8/11-8/15
great wheeling with a great crew
cant wait any longer to post pics. hopefully a trip report will materialize. i have so many pics

drews 60 can craawwlll.

Man, those axles look small in that first pic. Need some of the Dusty magic. A 60 on tons would be cool. Need to re-think that rear damping, too.

Keep the pics coming.

That was a great trip.

BTW-for those subscribed to Dusty's thread here...you could do worse than duplicating his set up. That 80 can wheel.

Any shots where you came down that V at the end of the trail? That was cool.
