Anyone get the star wars reference with politics?

Ok.. Just got a new to me house.. Been working on the living quarters but..
I need some help. The garage/basement has awesome potential but I need to move the main water line into the house about 4'.

THe current location is Exactly where I want to move a wall to go 3 car tandem on one side. I need someone to help me with codes, process? I've been reading Pages - DownloadCenter
as Blue springs follows IPC 2006 – International Plumbing Code.
I could either use some guidance or assistance.. or both!

I can provide Land Cruiser help, Parts, mechanical advice, beer, soda, food.
I gotta get this done so I can bring over the 45 and actually get started on it. I do have a spare bedroom.

I also want someone to look at a part of my basement and tell me if my evil plan to put in a spare bathroom will work.

But currently The Water line is the main concern. Post that will be more.

Thanks in advance.. Erik..

Does that make you Princess Leia?

You need to move it 4', here are a few questions:

  1. Move it vertically or horizontally?
  2. Before it comes in the basement or inside the basement?
  3. In the floor or through a wall?
  4. If through a wall, how far below grade?
  5. Just the line, or will it include the main shutoff, water meter, etc.?
  6. Copper pipe? If not, what type?

Take a couple of pictures of where it is and mark them up (MS Paint) with what you want to do.

Move it Horizontally.. It's coming up thru the concrete basement.

It is the main supply from the meter.

So It will involve a concrete saw, a jackhammer. I can do the stuff above the main supply shutoff... I'm just unsure how much is involved with moving the concrete part. if it's as simple as cutting the concrete, jackhammering it out, turning off the meter, putting in a 90, sweating 4', another 90 and up. I can probably do that. I just don't know how far under the concrete I will find the main line. I don't know how deep the concrete is, I don't have a concrete saw or jackhammer.. I do however know of a buddy that has access to that stuff! HINT HINT..

And I can be princess leah if it will help motivate getting this done! :)
Will work on paint description to mail to you.

Your basement concrete is probably 4" thick. You do need a concrete saw, but if we can get a swing at it a sledge hammer will suffice. Only probably need to remove around 6" x 4' to do what you want. I can handle the concrete if you can handle the plumbing.

I assume water heater is electric?

Erik,

Let me know when you guys are starting the project. I can probably swing by and lend a hand and talk about your bedroom idea but I don't want any part of the princess Leah gig.

that should be farily easy. just cut the floor up and turn off the water and try and drain as much water out as you can cause when you cut it in that ditch it could flood it. and could get nasty stuff in the pipe that will go on to your house or catch on your pressure regulator and clog it up.

dig outside to find out where that dude is?....before cutting a large hole...i have an electric jack hammer...a big one...you are welcome to use...oh and for christ sake don't involve the city!...if you are not altering the footprint of the house and if you are doing the work yourself so to speak i believe their involvement will just cause you grief...also be sure the basement has an egress window....that meets the code requirements...i believe it is 7sf opening

Erik-

I agree with Marc, the less the city knows, the better, especially if you want to add living space in your basement. I too have a good hilti hammer drill, but I definately recommend borrowing the jack hammer. If there is any metal in the concrete a sledge is a mess.

Back in your original message, you mentioned that the meter is now exactly where you want to put a wall. Why not build the water line into the wall, with an access hole?

If moving is the only option, then you are looking at a good 4-5 hour project. If we can get the jack hammer I have all the plumbing stuff, concrete stuff, needed to finish the project, and would really like to help to thank you for all your assistance. (I owe you bigtime)

Kelly

basement has 2 garage doors if that's an egress? there are 2 of those little windows down there as well. No windows located in area where I wanted to put a possible bathroom tho. :(
Plan is to possibly start this project the first weekend in Dec? (water section) depending on how much I get done before that. Tenative.

Moving right now. If anyone has seen my garage they will understand that's not an easy task. Welder is at house and one of 4 sections of tool drawers. Need the basics over there for starters.

This is not a huge priority other than moving the line, removing the wall, hanging lights. The new wall and other projects will be completed upon funding/laying out/help. I mainly need to get an idea what exactly it will all entail, have someone draw it up in cad for me etc.

Majority of upstairs is done. Furniture, kitchen etc is in. Worked on entrance light, kitchen overhead and undercabinet lighting sunday along with Jennifer's closet organizer setup. I didn't think it wise to do anything in the shop/basement till the other parts of the house were ? Completed? .

Other problem on scheduling is mid zone duck season opens the 1st, deer opens for rifle the 15th. Gotta fill the freezer, only got one archery deer thus far.

Chris calmed me down.. he knows what I don't.. or maybe is better at some things that I'm not that good at.
No need to go outside at all.. meter is outside in front yard, we're gonna be moving something in basement behind closed doors. should be fairly simple. if I'm counting correctly it should involve approx 12 sweat fittings to be done with all the plumbing.

While I have Chris I might very well start a basement wall to seperate what i'm going to call the shop from the rest of the basement. Depending on scheduling. Most of the lumber is there. Basement wall will be running directly under an I-beam. Will need one door.

Scott. Your welcome anytime to come help me lay out/plan. I would very much appreciate that help so I know what I can and cannot do. It would be awesome to have an actual bathroom downstairs so I don't have to go upstairs when working. There is some stub sticking up from the floor and a boxed in section next to it with drain beside it in the floor.. Was guessing that was the prep for a shower trap or something. Anyway, more on that when I have someone that knows looking at it.

But right now I'm going to put up the (4) 8ft flourescent light fixtures in the garage. Not all that fond of the single bulb light fixtures above the cars and the single bulb in the basement/shop.

For some reason i'm thinking January most of this might start, to give me a winter project.

Kelly, Marc everyone.. I will be asking for help. Thank you all for your offers.. I know I dropped off the planet for a bit but had to re-organize before jumping in.

For some reason when I get further into my existing garage I forsee a firesale on parts! Everyone prepare your shopping lists!

I like to prepare before a big project like this so I could have everything lined up.

Hijack:

Scott - if Shannon's up there, she'll want to discuss our bedroom remodel plans. Forget Erik's little bathroom! FYI - we closed the hall door and have been coming through the other door for better than a month now. I've almost quit turning right at the top of the stairs.

Chris,

That would be great. Just let me know when you might be in town. I will work on getting those few changes to you before then.

Scott

I'll holler when we get to the barn raising party. I'll be having an open house when it's "together"
Well.. Before it's "together" anyway.. Just need to get the upstairs "organized".

Appreciate all the offers and will take people up on them.
Gonna try and get the wall bits removed Thursday evening since i'm not working.. Kelly is coming over Sat evening to see about moving incoming water line. I have my sawsall over there and a hammer.. What else does one need!

Once that situation is resolved it's all downhill.

Got most of my closet stuff put in the closet last night with Jennifer's help.. Well.. Honestly.. She did it all I was working.

Scott.. Sounds like your "expertise" is key in the basement stuff.

Mike.. I'm sorry to say that before i got the place the hot-tub went with the old owners.. So if you are to come bbq on the deck I cannot at this time offer hot tub accomodations until that void is filled.
I know.. It's gonna be hard to accept! There is a huge hole in the deck that will eventually be filled.. I was told by my deck building superstar Zane that the wood would cost as much as a hottub.. So I guess that decision was made without my input.

The wood is a one-time investment.... the hot-tub is anything but. Hot tubs are like boats.... the two best days in your life are the day you get it and the day you sell it....... ask me how I know .

I'll smok'em up ahead of time :grinpimp:

Kelly and his Neighbor/sledghammer weilding Rob took care of this in 4 hours..
need to fill 2 small holes in the floor and be done..

Water line is moved. onto next projects.. WIll holler when needed!

Scott.. Feel free anytime your free to swing by and help me draw out the rest. In the meantime I'm gonna start moving tools.. in all my free time that is.

When watching a pro.. Yes.. Yes it is..
