Help me decide which fridge please

For the difference in price I will stick with a proven brand. Based on my research Edgestar seems to get great reviews on the cheap end and Engel is legendary for quality. Going with an unknown to save $50 seems like a big risk.

I'm just getting frustrated at this point .. as soon as I read this thread last Monday ( more than week ago ) I send mail, text and call several times .. but not invoice yet .. not even mail reply saying they got me in the line for one ..

Just got mine in good shape for $350! Some scratches and dings, nothing major. Smells like a fridge that Haden been used in a while, so it must be OK?! Had it plugged in 30 min and its pretty cool now !!!!!

Same. They seem to reply to texts though. I just check on them each morning. I guess worst case scenario I don't end up getting one and spend the extra money for a new edge star or ARB. They charging any other west coasters $400 now?

If you pass on this one, you won't be missing much.

I bought two for a little less than $325 each and I'm satisfied with the buy but not thrilled. The two that I received were in decent shape but well worn(read: slightly abused). For $400, I would pass and grab a new Edgestar. Yeah, the reliability on the Engels is "legendary" but how much of the life of these units has already been spent?

I would say that $350 for one of these is a fair price. Not a screaming deal and not a ripoff either.

Interesting perspective I appreciate you sharing. As time goes on I am leaning more and more towards doing exactly that.

X2 ^^^^

I was kind of obsessed with this deal .. but as time it's ticking ( 2 weeks ) and nothing happens I'm not gonna insist anymore ..

I would keep my eye in eBay on any danfos compressor freezer and will pic just one .. I use it maybe twice a year so I would see that as a good deal ..

paying less than 500 bucks for decent one will make me happy ..

I tried researching that one after it was linked earlier in this thread. I can find literally no info on it, much less reviews. Considering its a closeout from a company that sells solar equipment, I am not convinced its worth the $60 savings versus the edgestar which has been reviewed extensively by enthusiasts whose intended use matches my own.

IIRC, it was mentioned early on in this thread that this was an "auction" type purchase of a warehouse stock of fridges. If so, its seems a bit odd to me that they would have a bunch of used ones. Unless they were from a really big operation, could these be returns or refurbished units that were stored for some reason? No warranty I imagine. Have they all been tested thoroughly?

(hope this wasn't discussed above someplace... :) )

a lot of good points made here. Everyday that goes by I get closer to biting the bullet and order an ARB.

You will choose an ARB over Engel?

I used mine yesterday on a fishing trip. I have a secondary battery that was not hooked up to my charging system and connected it directly to the fridge. I only used it for drinks and it held 50 cans of soda/beer. It worked reliably and kept the drinks very cold. I am extremely happy with my purchase @$300

Got mine Friday. Plugged it in in the house. Works great. Very cold.
Only scratches were on the handles. The top had a small dent. The basket looked used but the inside of the unit looked brand new. I have not used it in the truck yet.

Last time I talk with Dave Josh was out of town with his mom .. few units left but he dunno If I was between the lucky owners of those non shipped units ..

I'm honestly over it. If it wasnt 100 to ship it I would feel better about it but at this point I don't care if I get one.

A little buyers remorse on this buy for me. Mine came today and seems to be well used. Dents and scratches all over 4"x1" on average with the missing paint areas rusting. There is one significant dent on top near the compressor that worries me the most. Also the cigarette wire is pretty corroded but seems to work. However, after an hour it was able to chill totally empty to 38 degrees.

For the $400 I paid to get it to Seattle, I kind of wished I spent the extra $80 for a brand new edgestar, my 2 cents.
