Why the muds? Better in the sand?

I just want a more aggressive tire again, I haven't run a MT since 2015 and I miss the look and performance in the mud. Overall a hybrid is a much better choice for all around use.

I've run Duratracs, KO/KO2s, DynaPros and more on recent rigs and I tried a new All Terrain tire on the GX that I've been wanting to try for a while and I've been very happy with them. Falken Wildpeak AT3W.

Pros:

- Good price
- Able to get a C load range in my size (285/70-17)
- Snowflake rated and great in the snow
- Just took a 1,800 mile road trip and they had great highway behavior and were not noisy
- Will be good off road for the simple off roading I do (read: not mud bogging or rock crawling, just getting back to desolite camp spots).
- Visual appeal is there. Aggressive looking enough.

Cons:

- A softer compound like the duratracs, which makes them steller in cold weather conditions, but I'd imagine makes them wear hard on rocks and such.
- I'm sure there's more cons, just not yet realized yet.

Overall, I'm very happy with them.

The AT3W is well loved here and most have no complaints. For that reason I suggested it to my buddy when he needed to replace the KO2's on his Tundra, but he only got 20K miles out of them and they wore funny. He went to Discount numerous times to see if they could be replaced due to a manufacturing error and they refused. He was maintaining proper air pressures and was rotating them every 3,000 miles too. Just food for thought in an otherwise biased environment. Personally I don't care for the tread pattern but that's just me.

I considered the KO2's but with the great reviews here and elsewhere I got the Falken Wildpeaks AT3W. Only been on one offroad trip in them and they were great. This is my first offroad vehicle but they SEEM to have a bit more grip than my BIL's 5th gen 4runner and his KO2's in similar situations. The on road manners are much better than expected and they're much quieter than expected even after I put 1300 miles on them (I figured they would get louder after break in).

Have a a buddy running these on his 4Runner who has run into this exact same issue re: seemingly premature wear

I think my next set will be the Wildpeaks as well.

If I ever locate and buy a gx lol.

Another vote for the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I have them on my 2010 GX460 and they ride better than the Michelins that were on it before.

Go with the 265/65/18. I has 275/65/18 on previously and the turning was a bit odd due to the wider tire.

Discount Tire Direct has been having flash sales pretty often with $100 off set of Falkens.

If the Falken AT3s are similar to Duratracs then I'm definitely not getting them. GY Duratracs are terrible tires...uneven treadwear, terrible road noise after 10k miles, and expensive now that they've developed a following.

Agreed. I HATED those tires on my truck. I didn’t have a great experience with Nitto Terra Grapplers either, but that was a long time ago. Also a different platform.

Goodyear Dura Craps lol.

Yeah had the duratracs on my 01 4Rnr and 08 4Rnr till the dealership showed me the uneven tread wear and I regularly rotated them. Ended up with KO2s for all my 4x4s because of the grip and the even tread. Currently have 40k miles on my 5th gen and still running strong. I will keep the KO2s until I find something better...

in The process of installing a lift and I bought some SCS wheels and now need to find tires. I want ATs in the 45lb range, 17 inch rim. Thinking of Cooper AT3s. Wild peaks are popular but I do not want that much extra rotating mass. Thanks for the advice!

well, I’m stuck between Cooper, Falken, and Toyo.

Well, I ended up playing it safe with 255/70/18 BFG KO2s for now. I think it came out great. It’s dirty, but I had to take a pic. No rubbing thus far, but I’ll still change out the the wheel well screw for more clearance.
