Help - I need a catalytic converter for my 80 series!

So I let my local mechanic convince me that my cat was giving me problems in 2020. We replaced it with an aftermarket from full line exhaust. Now needs replacing (of course) but I'm beyond the warranty of 25,000 miles. Should I get a factory, even if used, and if so where? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Why do you think it needs replacing again?

Sorry, its a 1997. Mechanic says rattling is coming from inside Cat 1 coming from engine.

Get a Magnaflow unit. Very easy to install unless they butchered it.

A number of us have installed these and are on 4-6 years with no issues.

I am going to be using Magnaflow when I do mine, either the universal ones or bolt in.

I have done a fair amount of exhaust work in my life and the exhaust on this truck is the easiest I have EVER done, and I live in the Midwest with rust.

I wanted to put this here for anybody thinking of re-doing there exhaust. When I started this project my exhaust was bad, really bad. It was leaking at the seal between the rear cat and the cat-back. Only one of the exhaust hangers had not rusted off and it was being held by some pipe strap...

Get a Magnaflow unit. Very easy to install unless they butchered it.

A number of us have installed these and are on 4-6 years with no issues.

Did the Magnaflow + Magnaflow second cat recently and it these pieces bolted up great. Rest of the exhaust was Borla and I needed to finesse it a bit to mate up with the Magnaflow but I think that was due to the positioning of the hangers on the Borla. Overall not too bad installation.

Hate to beat a (potentially) dead horse. But, my cats are officially throwing a code for replacement. I was wondering, is there any reason why a 1st gen Sequoia/Tundra Cat or something else with bigger emissions output wouldn't fit or do the job? Other than the obvious that the 80 ('96 in my case) has 2 and the O2 placement?

Cost, really. There are more Sequoia's in yards than 80's. Also I like knowing the options if something were to happen in the middle of nowhere and I didn't have OEM parts on standby.

Bosal = Aluminized Steel - 2 Year Plan - You will be back every 2 years for Repair if you live in Rust Belt. - No Business on a 25 Year Vehicle in my Opinion.
Borla = 304 Stainless - Lasts Forever the same as the Payments.
OEM = 409 Stainless - Lasts ~20 Years - Rusts, but Rust Slow - Half the Zinc & Chromium of 304.

Do not confuse the 2 like thinking a Mercury is a Mercedes.

Pretty sure that argument doesn't apply to cats, unless the epa gestapo has moved to a stop and frisk like tailpipe policy in your neck of the woods

Just blew up my first cat on the white 95, which clogged the second cat and then blew the y pipe. Grabbed a used y pipe and both cats off part out truck at my buddies with 160k on it. No real issues so far and super quiet with the whistle again. Original had 238k on it and had been loud for awhile. If he didn’t have what I need would buy the magna flow
