Do you have an instagram @spressomon ? if so, look up t0mills, he's running like an 06 duramax SAS low on 37s. He has equipped it for overlanding/touring, super clean.

Ok, I sure appreciate those that have offered up what its like to own and use a 200 including the thread about the rust prone KDSS assembly, etc. Thanks to those that have taken off the rose colored glasses.

I'm sorta kinda maybe at the point of thinking about my next rig. Mostly because I might have a bigger trailer to tow and the spressoWAGON just can't do it as it currently sits with nearly a ton and a half of mods and cargo that detract from its ability to adequately tow a 2 and 1/2 ton trailer or thereabouts.

So as much as I'd like to think about committing to a 200-Series I keep finding myself pulling back ...

I originally thought when the 200 was intro'd the additional electro-mechanical complexity (as compared to my '99 100), just like the KDSS BS, just wouldn't suit me. I keep finding good reasons to pull back my trigger finger every time I get sorta kinda infatuated with a 200. Then there's the whole thing about <10mpg in mod/tow mode, extra fuel tank, blah blah blah ...

So its kinda between a 200 and <gasp> an '06-early '07 DuraMax with a SAS conversion. Some days it seems like I'm full steam ahead with a 200. Other days it seems like the D-Max makes the most sense especially when I think about heavy duty front and rear axle assemblies, tons of power and torque, half-way decent fuel mileage, etc. Did I mention full float axles? Yep! At the end of the day the price of entry for the 200 is considerably more. OTOH my '99 has been an INCREDIBLE truck as much as this is mostly unrelated to the 200.

Now you know my conundrum.

Comments appreciated.

Maybe I missed it but how often are you towing? I have a 200 and an f250 powerstroke for work. If you need a diesel truck you need a diesel. You could jut buy a cheap older truck too if you're just towing occasionally.

We are considering a lifestyle change and more or less living out of an RV; but mostly boon docking, not staying in RV parks. Then stashing the trailer here/there for more aggressive trails and living out of the LC/D-Max for multiple nights, etc. much as I have done with my 100.

If your still thinking of buying what we chatted about, the 200 will do fine. It weighs a bit more than mine but it will tow it with no issues

The KDSS isn't a big deal really. Once the lift is on you would never need to adjust it again. Christo and Kurt know how to add lifts if the bolts are rusted.

The advantage to the 200 is you could explore more when you get where you are going vs the Duramax

You know how to get a hold of me if you have more questions

My '08 LC has 202,000 miles now and we took our 4000 lb trailer on a 6000 mile trip to Dawson City in the Yukon last summer. No problems but I am sure that the Chevs you are looking at can do that too. LOL. I find it funny that people still think that electronics are the weak link when I have watched the Ford transmissions, Chevy engines, Ford engines and Dodge front ends and trannys blow up over the last 20 years. We are entering an era of conversion to self driving cars and because we can't figure out how stuff works we think it'll break.
This summer we are going back to the Yukon and probably over to the North West territories in the '14 LX and will be on cruise most of the way with the radar on, wipers on auto and headlights coming on and dimming automatically. The headlights will not need aiming because the auto height keeps the truck level and when we shut it off the wife can get in and out when it drops down. If we decide to drop off the trailer we raise the truck, drop the leg and then lower the truck from the hitch.
I keep hearing about the frozen KDSS bolts but when I changed shocks twice the tech just unbolted the sway bars from the frame and never touched the KDSS. I would worry more about the rad than anything else. And yes, the gas tank is too small.
