Lol.

I just want people who uses premium to stop feeling like they need to sway me to Premium or convince me to go with a different car if I don’t.

I like... well LOVE my LX and just wanted to say that type of gas should not be a determining factor between the two great vehicles, as I am sure the LX can handle regular/both.

That is all. Have a good one fellas.

I definitely don't want to get dragged into a gas debate because I literally could not care less what type of gas others use, but, my own experience is that my MPG is correlated with the grade of fuel I use.

Although I always run premium, there have been two instances where I have been limited for choices and had to use regular (I'd say many of us have been there). The Owners Manual says that this is fine but that performance may decrease.

While I did not experience the knocking and pinging that many people do, what I did experience was a significant decrease in efficiency. The first tank of regular that I ran I went from 15 MPG the previous tank to 12 MPG. The second time was worse as I went from 14 MPG the previous tank to 10.

I also notice that even for premium, I get consistently better mileage using my local Chevron or Costco that some other stations nearby. It may be that the turnover is higher at the Chevron and Costco so the fuel is fresher?

Thanks for sharing. I ran mine on premium for a few thousand miles before I switched to regular, and have not noticed that much of a difference. I do a mix of city and highway and still average about 15 per tank at 185k. I tried to do a comparison but gave up because of too many factors.

I peaked at 19mpg on the highway over a few hundred miles, when it was only highway and premium, and I don’t think I’ve gotten but 18 with regular. Maybe I’ll try hopping on the highway again next fill to see if I can sustain 19 mpg highway with regular like I can with the premium.

You missed the point. Your conclusion is correct, and I even agreed with you in my earlier post.

I don't agree with the way you arrived at your conclusion.

Have a good one!

I didn’t feel the need to expand my point to include that it does not matter what I bought it for and what the car is worth... the fact of the matter is there is no proof that using regular gas will lead to significant damage, enough to justify the $10k in difference in cost.

The cheaper the vehicle the less sense it makes, but even on a 100k vehicle like a new LX, it is still 10% or more of the vehicles total price which is not an insignificant number. Even If I paid more it does not change my point that the difference in cost over 300k is significant. Even with him ignorantly ignoring the price I paid, it still doesn’t change my point. $10k+ over 300k is true for all vehicles that “requires” premium.

With that said, it is all about risk vs rewards for me. The risk is virtually nonexistent, yet the reward is I save thousands of dollars. If you can prove the risk for not using premium can result in expenses totaling more than the savings from not using premium, then I would reconsider.

It does not matter if the cost difference was set for a vehicle at 18k or 100k, because even 10% instead of 33% of vehicles value is still significant.

There are plenty of people on this forum alone who uses regular gas, and that has nothing to do with whether or not they can afford premium. They just simply don’t see the cost being worth it is all, and neither do I.

I could save $5k plus over next 5 years, or I could be out 5k so I can get “1-2 more mpg and hp”. I can live without the extra little benefit much easier than I can live without the extra 5k+.

Just because I chose saving cash over a 2 extra hp and mpg, does not mean I can’t afford this car. I choose not to pay for what you call “running costs” because my car has been running just fine without it
