Looked at some old threads and was wondering if anyone had found a replacement/upgrade for the original blower motor. Reinstalled my heater in the 68 FJ40 and wanted a bit more air blowing out of the defrost vents.

Speaking of blower motor. My scroll cage works great however there is no cover and all the air is coming out down around the feet of the passenger. Please see the attached photo. Can someone tell me if there should be a cover which is missing? If so, will this solve my defrost and heat problem? I cannot get any air up to the windshield to defrost. I have a 74 FJ40. Photo attached.

I have a nice one from a 78' if you don't have it.
Thank you everyone so much for your help in this. How much do you want to sell your #4 heater duct and do you know if it will fit my '74? Thanks again and I can't tell you all how much I appreciate this forum!

Eric from the diagram posted here it looks like my duct will not work on your 74'. Check the parts for sale and parting out sections. You should find one easily enough. You will also need the rubber sleeve to connect the duct to your heater box. I think SOR has a reproduction part available now for that item.

There is an old thread on upgrading the fan, which I did. The motor fit perfectly and i was able to use the squirrel cage without modification (although I would suggest being careful putting the cage on the new shaft as the new motor shaft is a bit larger in diameter). I used a die tool to create the threads and reused the original nut. When I installed the new fan, I was able to use two of the three original mounting screw holes. The installation took about an hour and a half.

Outcome -- Fan seems a bit louder than the original. I was hoping for more air movement and was somewhat disappointed in this modification. If your fan is dead, it an easy replacement.

I used the following motor.

Often the foam inside the heater has deteriorated an crap has built up on the heater core.

73 model was the last model year with the shorter duct and rubber boot. 74 the heater had the vent on top and the longer single piece duct. Never checked but always wonder how hard it would be to adapt the later duct in the earlier cruiser. Not something I would do to a stock cruiser. But one that already had some mods I would.
