That's one of two things that happen when you leave the running boards on. Aerodynamic forces rip the wheel right off of the rim, even while parked... and... you write a "hey what's the big thing on the frame on the passenger side?" post

Then the "search patrols" tell you to use the search function :flipoff2:

Still there

So, all the good jokes are taken so I'll throw out a real theory. :D Wheel and studs are gone and part of the running board ahead of the missing wheel is mangled. I think they lost the wheel and studs due to them coming loose and a wrecker scooped em up and set them down in the parking lot. If wheel was removed there it would be pretty hard to get it off without a jack or to remove the jack without a wheel there. Why they would've dropped it here I have no idea but the absence of scrapes on the pavement pretty much guarantees it was put down there.

That old trick of thieves lifting a car and pulling a wheel off wouldn't work very well on a heavy ass LC.

i love a good mystery.

I just keep wondering where the lugs areo_O

The resolution of picture is not good enough to see if studs sheared off, but I assume they did. For that to happen I'd assume they were very rusty and lug bolt were loose for a very long time. This rig would have vibrated like crazy for a long time. Some people drive until a tow is needed, at some point they abandon.

If owner can be found I'll bet it can be bought for $800.

In the first photo the drum portion of the rotor has been very recently ground or sanded, 2nd photo rust has formed. Just adds to the mystery.

Is that navy blue?? (I'm somewhat color blind)

Both of my running boards have a small section of exposed metal on the back from the cover either shrinking over time or sliding forward, so not sure if that running board is damaged. Mine look exactly the same as that one.

Here's the basic vehicle info from a license plate lookup. "Full report" includes owners name if anyone wants to spend the $2.95 at License Plate Records Search - SearchQuarry.com - Custom Record.

The running boards can be fixed. You have to peel the rubber off, reposition and resecure to the aluminum base. I feel it is easier to do all that by removing the running boards from the truck. Remove the plastic end caps and peel off the rubber.

I'm in the lug nuts broke off camp. If you look at an enlargement of the first photo, the lug holes look damaged/elongated. Did anyone look to see if the tire/wheel are in the back? There's damage to the right front fender too, so the wheel (already loose) could have been broken off in an accident. But why park it there and leave it? Even a damaged, high mileage '98 is still worth something!
