Did anyone ever rig up a new headliner without pulling the cargo and windshield weatherstrip?

I like my stupid chrome. I have the cargo W/S from PVcruisers but I like my stupid chrome so I have been rethinking options (like not replacing the W/S).

But that does not include spraying bedliner or the like.

I'm with ya on that one Eric..kinda like the stupid chrome but also have a POS headliner :(..........my 78s windshield had to be replaced and the seal turned to dust = now no more chrome trim for windshield:frown:

Yep, my parts 7/70 has a badly cracked windshield and I thought I would break it out if someone was interested in having it made. No takers. Could do so with the cargo but I don't know if they are (1) in good enough shape and (2) who could/would make them. It is just prohibitive I guess as we have seen with PV and Slowcruisers...not enough of us buyers.

If someone would make it for the WS with chrome I'd buy it hands down. It doesn't even need to have the chrome as I could reuse my old. One of the reasons I have been putting off paint because I know I need to paint behind the WS and I know I'm gonna screw it up taking it out. Then forced to buy non chrome WS. I wonder if I could grind the sides of the chrome down and glue it on to the new. I'm sure it would look crappy.:frown:

;) dat's better than me thinking about surgical work on a good non-chrome WS.

I would buy 5 sets for sure! I dont imagine it would be too much more expensive than a single cargo side window gasket...

It would not be too hard:
1 extrusion mold for straight sections.
1 corner/splicing mold for corners.

Obviously its more complicated b/c of the need for the lips to retain the chrome strip, but since the corners could be made to be identical, it wouldnt be overly expensive. Corner molds are the most expensive part of the deal... and the cargo side window use 4 different corners.

Might be worth talking with fairchild and seeing what they can do? I would be willing to donate the W/S from my 1976 FJ55 with chrome trim. I have gathered a few sets of chrome trim with the intention of at some point reproducing windshield and cargo window chrome trim W/S...

I thought I saw rare spares in AU had them. dont know about the chrome, looks gay anyway.Might check them out.

:hhmm: Ha. Sounds like repressed projection there. :D

Chrome bling...pimp my ride and away we go ya think? Aussies wouldn't want that gay look? :ban:

Seriously though, I don't think Rare Spares or anyone is making the W/S for chrome. But I think I'l start looking around for a way to get that done.

I tried installing a headliner without pulling the windows out. It didn't work that great. I think it can be done, but I didn't have the patience or knowledge to install a headliner nicely. Even on older rubber, the inner lip should be a little bit flexible. I tucked as much of the headliner as I could under the rubber weatherstripping, which took careful trimming.

With the right adhesive and proper installation everywhere else, I don't see why you can't try it.

Any photos of how yours turned out?
