Hi everybody!!

I had my intake gaskets fail a couple of weeks ago and decided that if Im going to be removing the intake/exhaust manifolds might as well convert over to a header type exhaust. I had a 72 40 that I performed the same conversion on a few years back and abolutely loved it. The sound and performance(however minimal) was certainly worth it. I am trying to fit the new MAF 6 to 1 header on my 73 55 and am running into clearance issues.

The first issue is one of the tubes is hitting the block where the remote oil filter lines come out of and the fittings that came with my new oil lines.

The next is that the collector output points directly at the drivers side rear engine mount giving me less than 3 inches to route the new exhaust.

When I installed this conversion on my 40 I had none of these problems. Everything bolted up great. I know that "officially" MAF doesnt make a header for the 55, but the issues I am having would be apparent whether I was installing this thing on a 55 or a 40, due to the similarities of the drive train.

My question is, who else is having these issues? Am I an isolated incident? Is there a better header out there that fits?

Thanks for any info you can give.

The guy "Cruiser Innovations" had the same issues a posted some pics and details about getting around these header problems.

MAF must have changed them a little over the years. I just removed a motor with the 6 into 1 headers and had closeness issues like you are having, but not deal breakers. I certainly had to have a tight bend to clear the bellhousing mount on the drivers side and I had to get longer oil lines and make sure they did not touch the headers. I wrapped my headers in that spot also. Mine did not hit the block though. sorry I couldn't help more on this one.
