Fighting with exhaust manifold bolts to y pipe. Got two bolts out and still fighting with other two bolts.
Went ahead and ordered AeroKroil from Kano and it should arrive tomorrow so will give it a try.

Also called CDAN today and ordered following:
  • head gasket kit
  • thermostat and thermostat gasket
  • water pump and gasket
  • some vacuum hoses

I will see how it goes.

Besure to inspect wiring connectors especially the fu r l injectors. I did the same job your doing put all back together and sputtering intermittent peddle acceleration turned out injector connector clip broke so stays loose and wiggles during running engine and produces jurking bad gas milage and sluggish response I zip tied it and problem solved runs great now. But I suggest replacing all sensors and check wiring

Hi, I don't want to revive or hijack a very thorough thread but I am in the same boat as Jorgito working on my '97 40th anniversary 125k miles. I am a noob, most I have done up to this point is front main seal and oil pump and have been using this thread paired with the FSM and OTRAM to get to my current point of having the head off of my 1fzfe. I know a lot of people say not to bother with cleaning the pistons but I went ahead and cleaned them. The cylinder walls on 2,3,4, and 5 looked very reasonable to me. However when I rotated my crank today in order to bring other cylinders to TDC I noticed that cylinders 1 and 6 seemed a little less "ideal" is this concerning or not a big deal? These photos are from cylinder 1. Although not identical, cylinder walls on 6 look similar to this with this being the more noticeable/concerning in terms of the brownish discoloration. I don't know if this happened because I have had these two cylinders sitting at TDC for about a month now with the head off or if this is completely unrelated. Any input in appreciated. I don't know if it makes a difference but I tried manually checking each piston for play against the cylinder walls and they all seem snug. I added a mix of atf/acetone to all the cylinders including 1 and 6 and they all still had a decent amount of the mixture in the cylinders 2 days later.
