Well my '89 lj71 cracked its head:censor: , its a 2lt not the 2ltII so the 3L head wont fit. I cant seem to find a source for a 2lt head here in Vancouver BC. Does anyone know of any sources. Would a 2L head be able to fit?
 
what are your symtoms for the cracked head , i also have a wee LJ71 , reckn its a great little cruiser . I have a 2lt also & am curious to what yours is doing ? I have a 14BT thats going to dropped into it later this year , will have a smile when the 2LT is taken away:) :cheers:

Hi there , I was able to catch it early(Lucky in that repect). I noticed my temp gauge start to jump up & down quite a bit. It usually sat about 1/4 on average. Then i noticed that my coolant overflow bottle would be empty every 3-4 days after i would top it up. decided to check the t stat so when i drained the coolant i noticed it had a black residue in it. decided to pull the head found cracks and a the start of some pitting. Cylinder walls & pistons are still in great shape. Its only got 64000 kms on the ODO & the mechanic i have Says the engine reflcets that mileage give or take a few. I'm enjoying the fuel economy (Im averaging 10L/100k). More power I wish but thats in the future. Cheers

so ya, just re-reading your last post your USING coolant - likely burning it? different scenario than the 2LTe it seems (pressuized coolant system). Curious where the cracks are you mention. Can you ost pics of them?

cracked inbetween a couple of the cylinders & in the middle part where it concaves between the valves. sorry didnt get any pics.

thanks I am gonna try them if i cant source one thats closer. like you say air freight sux. I've tried a couple of local toyota dealerships & they cant find the 2lt head. they say that they are discontinued. Dunno maybe these dealerships well I know one for sure that wont even help out if you tell them parts are for a jdm.
 
the 2LT do not crack as often as the 2LTE, these are more prone to dropped valve guides and seats.
they do crack, just not at the same rate...
i absolutly love the LJ71, short, light coils,490 diffs

to me a LJ71 rag top with a 3.5 engine, R141 would be a perfect setup...
