So, in attempting to put together a consensus, I come up with Pyro, oil pressure and auto trans temp (ignoring the argument about the turbo timer). Any other guages that should be considered?

Boost.

Yes, that is very helpful. What about mounting location? That makes a total of 4 guages to put in, which of course leads to where to put them. I'm sure Ciaran will have some suggestions, but what have some others here done?

Just to give you something else to mull...

Have your considered a westach gauge? You can get 3" or 3.125" round quad gauge sets. I believe you can mix and match what gauges you want in it. It would end up being a pod mount, however they look very nice. They seem to have been updating their website lately and I don't see the pics: http://www.westach.com/

Or perhaps consider a triple: pyro/oil pressure/boost in one, and a single for the tranny temp...

I got the ISSR3607T-K Pyro and ISSR5613-K boost guage.
Here is a pic of the pyro:

I still need to take a pic of my mount.
I put mine below dash on a 2 cluster holder.

Which thermocouple did you use?

I don't know which one Nick used but if given the choice I'd pick the high heat one assuming that it would be more resistant to failure. I know Wayne (Crushers) has had a thermocouple fail and take out a turbo.

Okay, long time coming. Quite a few people have asked for pics of where I mounted my gauges.
Here is the pic of where I put my guages in my 81.

Here is what I see in park:

I can only see the pyro. Boost guage is hidden. I don't care cause boost is zero anyways,

Here is a top view.
I made sure the guages were inside the width of the tunnel. Meaning I made sure my knee would not ever hit or touch them when I am driving and resting my knee.

Here is what I see when driving. A nice clear view of everything. (Note: truck is not running. :))

I have thought about signing up for 80 series ROTW.
I think it would make me the first diesel 80. :)
Just might do that...

Maybe we should start an international cruiser ROTW.
That sounds like an idea.

Nick.... Looks nice and clean....

What is the red button for?

The red button engages the hyperdrive. :) :D :)
Very very very rare Japanese option.
It's very dangerous and should only be used in Alberta, Saskatchwan and parts of Manitoba. :)

Acutally, it's a shift release.
When they keys are not in the ingition, I can press that button and then move the shifter into any gear.

Nick

Yes yes yes yes yes yes .. !!!!!

We have a lots of nice rigs .. :bounce2:

That's a really neat mount! I was considering something similar unfortunately I have a manual and the shift lever would foul the gauges in top so I'm having to think again.Ordered the gauges today from PDR.

Nick, once again a very nice update and great install.

I've decided to go with Pyro, boost, AT temp and oil pressure. I'm probably going to get Piers to put them in for me. I'm very interested in putting them on the A-pillar. Anyone done this? I'd take the handle off (never use it) and run them down the pillar - I'm not super concerned that there be an exact match replacement look but want it to look decent. I'll be getting this done in the next few weeks.

I could not find an A-pillar installer.
But a 4 cluster below dash like mine would be nice.
Would could see everything when in D.

If you do find a pillar mount, and remove your handle please let me know.
It would be nice to get another handle for the passenger side.
I use my driver side handle for getting in and out.

Nick

Hello Towpack.

Nice 5-speed.
That is a problem I would like to have. :)
I am sure you could make it work somewhere.

Cheers,
Nick

Yup the shift patern is the same.
As well as the clutch, gas and brake.

1 3 5
2 4 R

Only difference between RHD and LHD is your turn signal and wiper levers are reveresed.

Cheers,
Nick
