Hi, I have a hdj80 24valve auto, i want to run 315/75r16 mud tires, does anyone on here have that combo? I am a bit worried the automatic gearbox will not hold its gears /overdrive long enough.

Thanks!

You should be fine. With the torque of the diesel I've never felt the need to regear and I run 34" tires.

Many run 35's or even larger using stock gearing with the gas engine.

Unless you live in a hilly area, you should be fine.

The question is what gears do you have as stock? I know many of the diesels have higher avalible. I switched to 3.55 gears with my diesel swap. And run 315 tires. If I was in the mountains all the time at high altitude it might not be ideal. I'm in the flat lands and can run 80mph all day long with out the motor being wound up.

Almost all the factory diesel trucks have 4.10's.

I have a HDJ80 12v with the late model gearbox (electronic) and 35's. I put in a Marks 4WD speedo corrector. The gearbox uses the speed signal as an input when to shift. So changing tire size will affect this. With the speedo corrector you can eliminate this an bring it back to normal. The diesel has enough torque to handel the big tires.

It has a cooler and 4.1 gears.
Geert, i'll look into the speedo correction, merci he :)
