HDJ101k Japan Purchase

Hello all,

I just purchased an HDJ101k at auction in Japan and I thought I got a pretty sweet deal (~12,000 USD). I had a PPI run and it came back great, and I took a look at some photos and set a low maximum price. Now that I am looking at more photos, and thinking about it, I am wondering if this car is overly rusted/possibly in rough shape. This car has about 115,000 miles and has maintenance records, but the undercarriage has been completely painted. Attached are some photos showing different views of the car. I can see there has clearly been some rust on the undercarriage, and there is a questionable amount of rust in the engine bay. There also appears to be some water damage or something on a bed platform that has been installed in the trunk. I am wondering if any one thinks that this is overly problematic, or that there could be some major structural rust? I will have to wait for it to arrive in the states to confirm, but I would appreciate some insight from anyone that is very familiar with these. Thank you.

if the purchase is committed already, all you can do is wait and see. Those photos aren't super helpful lol

the underbody looks fine, it's hard to say that it's actually been painted. mine looked a lot like that when i got it too and there's still factory stickers and markings on it. I can't see any stickers or markings on yours but those photos also arent positioned in a way that you'd be able to see them.

The rust in the motor bay is somewhat concerning but youll need to just inspect it closer when it arrives

The rear area, i'm not exactly sure what you're seeing that's concerning to be honest

There’s nothing necessarily concerning in the rear, I just attached the photo to show it. The rust in the engine bay combined with it being painted is what I was worried about. There are many more photos that include paint overspray underneath, I was just wondering if anyone could glean some insight based on what I posted or could help explain how an engine bay even gets rusted like that. Unfortunately these photos posted at significantly lower resolution than I wanted. Of course all I can do is wait, but still I appreciate your insight.
