Hey all,
I’m chasing down a fuel delivery issue on my 1992 HDJ81 with the 1HD-T engine. The truck starts and runs great once it’s been primed, but if it sits for more than a few hours it becomes slow to start. The starter cranks strong, but the engine doesn’t fire for around ten turns or so. I believe it’s a priming issue because once the truck finally fires, it runs perfectly with no smoke, stumbles, or other symptoms of air in the system, and it starts fine again for the rest of the day.
I bought it with an aftermarket fuel filter housing / filter with no hand primer built in. I’d like to revert everything back to the OEM+ setup with the proper primer and check valve. If it does turn out to be a priming issue, I’ll need to work through it anyway, and since I want to replace the fuel filter, it makes sense to just refresh the whole setup at once.
I’ve ordered:
What are people using these days for the bottom of the OEM fuel filter? Is there a newer Toyota part that fits, or are folks just plugging the hole or using an aftermarket valve? I’d prefer to keep it completely mechanical since there’s no wiring in place now.
Apologies if this has been covered somewhere! I haven’t been able to find a solution. Appreciate any help, photos, or part numbers.
Thanks!
