Have you done this to an FJ55?

I used to own an FJ40 many years ago. i did the shackle reversal up front. For me, that was the best thing i ever did to my truck. I am wondering if anyone has done it to an FJ55?

I have an FJ55 now and am wondering how you liked it, that is if you did it. Now i know there are those of you who disagree with the reversal, but i don't mean to set you off. I did it and i liked it. Just wondering if it works well on an FJ55?

How much would the kit cost to do the reversal as well? Who makes it and where can i find it. Yes, it was almost 15 years ago that i did it on my FJ40.

Thanks brothers!

the 76 i've got had it...not overly impressed. doesn't seem to make the difference that it did in my 40. maybe i just don't remember how my other pigs without it handled.

No they are not the same. MAF has a different kit for the :pig: last I've seen. I know the spring pin O.D.s are different between the 40's & :pig: rears so possibly the fronts pins are a different O.D. as well. I junked all my leaf stuff years ago so I'm just going by memory here. Good luck w/ the leafs

I believe the length is the same for the front springs only but the width is different when i pulled the lift kit of the 40 i bought for the axles and various other parts the springs where 2.5" where as the 55's are 2.75" but i am not for sure if the factory ones are smaller as well

the bolt pattern on the spring pin is different, and i believe the bushings are different to accommodate different size shackle pins. (another difference that doesn't apply to the shackle reversal kit is the center pin is centered on a pig, not on a 40).

as for getting the rock finder shackles out of the front, you're adding rock finder brackets, so i don't know where the benefit there is.

Generally (and I do mean generally) I go forward on the trail... :flipoff2:

Yep...and instead of a shackle hanging down, you have this hanging down.
correct[1].webp

I bet the longer wheelbase Pig makes the shackle reversal less noticeable...

Howdy! I have a SR that was done in conjunction with my SO. It was done like Zuluzeugma's, no kit. Just swap the hangers end for end so there are no "rock finders" hanging down. After doing the "cut N turn" the spring perches were welded in at an angle to match the springs and keep my caster between 4 - 6 degrees. The end result is very good steering manners with better ability to roll over small to medium obstacles noticably faster than most of the other rigs that I wheel with. Since I am running stock gears, I tend to use a lot of momentum, feather the skinny pedal, and stay away from the clutch. It is a soft enough ride that even though I wiggle and wobble a lot, I never spill my....coffee. JOhn

Dudes, I love the idea of swapping the stock mounts. How difficult is that? I think i may just do that. is there some kind of tutorial out there to guide me?

WOW, what great ideas form the Knights!!!

Thanks brothers

It was super easy. They are just rivoted into the frame. I took the torch, blew out the centers of the rivots and didn't damage the mounts at all. When I did SR, I also moved my front axle forward 3" (which ROCKS!) When you weld them in make sure you: Measure twice, tack, measure again, weld....

Good luck

hyjack!!! sorry

hyjack... in!

moving them forward, will this reduce the amount you are required to turn (when cuting and turning the knuckles during an SOA)? and is the standard front drivesaft still have sufficient length if you move the springs forward 3"?

you do this to, more so, change the approach angle than the wheelbase?

hyjack..... out!
