Thoughts from a newb-

When I found this site, I lurked around for 2-3 weeks straight before I even thought about posting. Just like in any organization or group you want to be apart of, you have got to be ready to follow the rules or standards and know who you are dealing with.

Before I even joined IH8MUD.COM, I read and reread pages of posts - just to learn about the 80's and how they operated and what mods I have to make. I just wanted to learn and the level and amount of knowledge here surpasses any on the net that I have found.

I quickly became familiar with how regular members responed to questions and knew I would have to do my reSEARCH before I asked a question. I do use the search feature and have found everything I have needed to know (so far), I am glad it is there.

So - what I am trying to say is - be ready to search, use the resources available before you ask questions. I like the fact that the regulars give newb's a hard time, it keeps us all in our places!!

I guess I have now opened myself for future flamings whenever I ask a question that has already been covered!

Keep up the great work guys!!!

Derek

If a person has a legit question, why not ask it.
So what if it has been asked b4. If they have had a quick look & did not see it, then a search may only waste time anyway.
Also with asking the question, it helps build the community of this forum as people will see the question & respond, either with assistance, banter or may relate to them as well.

ok, this is my take. As a newbie (like Harridig) I had a legit question and searched for it. I also observed threads for a week before posting my ? I think we should first: give the newbies advice and links to threads and info. Then, if they continue to ask stupid questions (because they are too lazy to look at FAQ's and links that were provided) we have the right to hammer them. Fair enough? They need to do their homework first (me included).
However, if a newbie starts a thread with a totally fawken stupid topic (z71) and pick fights, we slam them hard. (oh yeah, we did that didn't we?!)

lets see the pic (you can link it without a problem) :)

do you have filter turned on aint? quote of landtanks :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: dude is messed up. wonder if thats why or something else.

<When I first found this group on SOR, I asked what now seems to be stupid questions. All I ever received was courtesy and respect>

"courtesy and respec" You must of not asked as stupid ??? as I did :)

not according to UPS my friend... :D

i appreciate the comments of those people who have studied a little before posting here. That's what I did, and barring an emergency, that's what I expect of newbies. I have seen other forums where that courtesy is not observed and it leads to a nasty place full of badly typed badly thought out superficial questions no one answers followed by flame wars. Therefore, I vote we make things a little bit rough for newbies just to keep them honest, while still maintaining a friendly demeanour. I don't say turn away a lazy poster but a gentle reminder that that ain't what passes for manners around here never hurt.

oh and this is still chat and you are all still padding :flipoff2:

no but I have heard that german tanks would sometimes ram russian tanks because the Russian interior accomodations were so bad that injuries and confusion were inevitible, whereas the germans were nicely protected... :flipoff2:

right, the T34 had much wider tracks and so could get through mud that the german tanks would sink into.
Sounds familiar, yall tire-obsessed cruiserheads?

Here is a typical post from Ich8russians.com

Mein Herr
The optical sight on mein 8.8cm keeps slipping out of alignment when we hit a ditch while trying to retreat across the steppes and the adjusting screw has vibrated out now and is lost. Can I switch out the sight with a unit from a 1944 Jagdtiger with the 12.8cm gun (I have a good parts vehicle handy nearby as soon as it stops smoking)?

Also I fixed the diesel smell when reversing using the snorkel. Bitter for the tip on extending the nozzles herr C-Danzig.
