Hey everyone. We finally have a date for the install of the 2H into Shasta. To bring you up to speed, here is my build thread. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/th...conversion-to-hj60.807198/page-5#post-9289757

We are planning to make major headway on Saturday and all our welcome to join. Johhny has been awesome and volunteered his driveway and garage full of tools for the transplant.

If you don't know Johnny's address PM me or Johnny. Hope to see you there. Please comment if you intend to join us so I know the count for sundries.

If you come you can:
  • Lend a hand
  • Provide advice
  • Laugh at me and/or Johnny
  • Get dirty wrenching
  • Have an icy cold adult beverage or several
  • Eat some food (the cooker is currently deployed so I'll prob just order pizzas)
  • Help me bring Shasta back to life.
Hopefully it wont be balmy and raining and we can get a ton done. Probably look at a start time of 9am but come when you can. There is full list of to dos on the link above.

High level list for Saturday:
  • Carefully remove 2F motor mounts and attach them to 2H
  • Hoist in 2H
  • Attach transmission to crossmember
  • Tack motor mounts
  • Verify fitment
  • Remove 2H
  • Weld motor mounts
  • Rebuild TX case (already disassembled)
  • Re install 2H in new home
  • Plumb and test all systems (Fire/Water/Air/Fuel)
  • Sort out Electric
  • Fill all fluids and run safety check
  • Test fire (hope we get this far)
  • Chase and squash bugs
  • Build punch list for anything remaining.
Shasta is excited.

Shasta: "Feed Me!!!"

I'll try to make it, depending on where the Dozer project is headed. Really pushing to have her ready for LR, which is creeping up oh so quickly.

Address where all this is going down.

It's like a habitat for humanity house build except for a vehicle. You may have just come up with a new out reach organization. Everyone jumps in and gets stuff done!

  • Lend a hand - definite maybe
  • Provide advice - always
  • Laugh at me and/or Johnny - always
  • Get dirty wrenching - definite maybe
  • Have an icy cold adult beverage or several - twist my arm
  • Eat some food (the cooker is currently deployed so I'll prob just order pizzas) - twist my arm
  • Help me bring Shasta back to life - definite maybe

Hey all-- I'll definitely be there. Timing depends on my oldest's HS volleyball tryouts. If she makes first cuts, she will be there till almost 11. If she gets cut first round, I'll be there earlier.
Looking forward to hanging out with everyone.

Damn y'all I wish I could stop by. Unfortunately, I am being held hostage in Fayetteville this weekend. I would give anything to get away, especially if it meant busting some knuckles and drinking beer. Can't wait to see some after pics.

So Tim's frame is .5" narrower than mine at the front crossmember and ~1.5" narrower than mine at the factory motor mount location. This thing needs to be straightened before we put the motor in.

I need to make some calls to see what we can do. I'll keep everyone posted. If we can't get the frame done by Saturday then we will focus on body work for Shasta and then Derek's FJ80 front end rebuild!

Man, that sucks. Howard can straighten that out!

Holy c--p batman, that thing took a beating at some point. Good call (only call actually) on getting it fixed before working on it.

I'm bummed. :( But, like some Tubmblr post on the interwebs taught me - If you don't have time to do it right, then when do you have time to do it over? Good news is. There is still plenty of work to do and I am still bringing plenty o' beer and I'll buy lunch. Who knows, if the stars align and Johnny can pull a rabbit our of a hat, we might could push forward.

Johnny as always, thank you.

Shame you are not closer, taking bodies off is getting to be "normal" around here lately. 60s are tail heavy and need to be strapped to use the lift on the front end

Frame off is a piece of cake. Just 20 more bolts to take off now that the motor and tranny are out :D

Speaking of, no one in RDU has a good 60 frame, do they?

So no motor will be going into the chassis this weekend, sadly. We will be focusing on body work on Shasta and a front end rebuild on Derek's FJ80.
