I got a FCC general radiotelephone operator license for work and i was wondering if this a requirement for the HAM license. For those of you that are more familiar with this I passed the test for elements 1,3,8 & 9.
Thanks guys:beer:

Are you asking if you're now enabled to use HAM? If so i doubt it's the same elements to allow you to use HAM and you also would need a Callsign issue to you by the FCC. If nothing else maybe you can add elements? Did you get a callsign issued to you? FCC regulations are very tight and in many cases licenses do not carry over to other frequencies and other uses. Such an example would be race radios for desert racing. Just cause you can operate a race radio doesn't mean you can operate a 2 meter or 440mhz radio.

All this said, I should have an answer for you tomorrow on this.

You currently hold a commercial license and need an amateur license. You need element 2 to hold a technicians' license. Not sure but you can probably bring your GROL or FRN with you to your test date and get your general as well.

ARRLWeb: ARRL/VEC - Examinations and Licensing

You are probably ready to take the technician test now but can take some practice tests here: Free Amateur Radio Test Preparation - The Fastest Way To Become A Ham Radio Operator - HamTesting.com - Free Amateur Radio Practice Tests - HamTesting.com

Check the net for other sites and maybe others can recommend some alternate test sites.

I just took the test for fun right now not knowing a single thing about it and scored a 62% I got 22 of 35. But most of the ones I got wrong the actual answer was my other choice or the choice I had changed my answer from. So with a little studying this test could be a breeze to pass. I will probably look into this over the Summer.

Mark -awesome!! Wish I'd have known before Sunday. I'd have loaned you my Technicians Exam book by Gordon West. You are closer than you think to passing!!! You can literally miss every quesiton with math or formula about electricity and still pass the exam!!!
