H42 stuck in gear

It is a sensor for being in 4th gear, so the engine computer can engage its warp drive "lean burn" condition as long as the other sensors are in the right position too. I think that this is only from 75 or 76 to maybe 79?

Without the detention springs, the shifter will feel mushy, like a stick in a bucked of concrete instead of the crisp click it makes when going into N and into gear. “Snick, snick”. I’ve never seen someone leave them out. It just goes to show that you don’t need them to stay in gear.

I've got that "mushy" feeling and want my "Snick snick" back. Pops out of 1st occasionally also. Ordering parts now. Looking forward to getting in there.

This " Snick Snick " @Pin_Head describes was the First thing @ksrunner and I both heard & felt when Dry-Shifting , and testing basic

function Running Through the gears with Engine OFF , & Clutch depressed by Hand , I looked over & said see that ' " Tink Tink " ,

That's what we want to hear and feel ......................

I am certainly not an expert only familiar due to necessity. That is exactly what Pin head said it is it is a sensor that confirms fourth gear is engaged. Not sure if it would affect smog results without it functioning but can't take the chance here in California so I had to make sure mine was in place and working.

Bummer! SOR only has 2 detent balls. Gonna be a few weeks till they get more so I'm on back order.

It is very unlikely you would need to replace them. Someone would have had to maliciously remove them. They don’t wear out.

Wow! That is a great offer from you guys and I really appreciate it. But,, I’ve already replied to SOR’s email and told them to just send the whole order when everything arrives so I’ll just wait on them. Plenty of other little projects to do in the meantime and I gotta get through the holiday madness also but thank you both for the nice offer.

Pin_Head’s comment is true but then again, he doesn’t know the PO like I do Lol. I’ve encountered stranger things with this rig. Thanks again guys but I’ll wait on SOR and when I get in there, I’ll be reviving this thread.
