I don't know how I feel about the Prado taillights. Or those plasticky looking things that were recently released. I still think the red OEM GX taillights are the best looking ones.

Great location great day.
Indeed! I hadn't been up tecate, only out in the area quite some time ago. I want to do a loop of peaks w some easy offroading:
Otay
Tecate
Hike morena butte
Los pinos
Hike corte madera
Drive out bear valley then sheephead Rd
Hike sheephead
Back to SD!
Def need to camp overnight somewhere in there haha

Looks like an awesome time. 200 miles offroad is no joke. How many days were you out there?
total trail time was less than 15 hours, including stopping for pics, etc. we did it in 3 days but planned for 4. most of the driving was on washboard roads- only the 1000ft through dedeckera canyon was technical.

i didn’t realize how busy and non family friendly saline valley warm springs would be so skipped that planned stop.

i also didn’t realize how cold and windy racetrack playa would be so spend a few hours trying to find a campsite. ended up sleeping in the car since the wind gusts must have been 40+.

hunter mountain was the toughest stretch as conditions were muddy and snowy, in addition to rutted and washed out. ran into a group coming in the opposite directly and they said they got stuck in mud twice.

@Banandalorian

I think you are the only other guy on this thread running a Blitz and without a lightbar in the top slot. I was able to covert mount a set of Baja Designs S1 lights in mine by turning them sideways and using the existing inner tab mounts to secure them, if you are interested. I didn't want a full bar but I did want something better than the factory gimp ass fogs ...

I have a Diode Dynamics combo bar in my bumper but I often use it as a super fog light. I replaced the pointless OEM fogs with Diode Dynamic C1 SAE fog pods which are an improvement, but still pretty small.

i have the dd ss2 pro sae fogs. don’t bother. jump to ss3 pros or max minimum to get useable output

I think any SAE lighting pretty much sucks when compared to the non SAE stuff.
Do you think maybe they suck because they don’t blind everyone on the road and are actually for fog? Auxiliary lighting is getting out of hand.

Point taken.

If a guy is going to install lights though, he wants to be able to see with them. Throttling down the output and focusing the output tightly down does other drivers a favor, but the user should really be dimming them on the approach of other vehicles as a courtesy anyway. Limiting light output because some people are obnoxious doesn't seem like it should be the answer...

Towing test done with 5200 lbs. She runs warm, but temps and AT lock up patterns are on par. A decent external ATF cooler would help keep pan temps lower. Creating a lock up condition reduces ATF temps quickly. Climbing grades on the highway in 3rd gear is weird. The GX470 feels more engaged to me. GX460 gear ratios and throttle response are soft for towing. The comfort level is off the charts which is good because 55-60 MPH is it.

The ambient was 78F-85F and it was windy. Blue Ox and Red Arc kept things in line.

Do you have the oem radiator or a HD all aluminum radiator?

OEM radiator only. No external ATF air to air cooler.
Do you have third row AC? It nets an aux electric fan.
Only other powertrain cooling variable out there. I have a Base with the severe weather package so it has the 3rd row AC and heat with an aux pusher fan.

I use the AC for the Huskies and if I am solo at altitude I have the second and third row set to max heat just for more heat exchange headroom. They can dump a lot of heat if needed.
