An HOUR???

Yes. It is steep, muddy and rocky and it was raining on and off. Plus, you could not do a straight pull. As you ascended, you had to make a hard right. I was not up there helping with this as I was navigating a by-pass to get the 10 trucks behind me around that area. And that is where my first and second pics come from. As I got into this rocky creek bed, I slipped off one rock, slid sideways into another and popped the tire off the wheel. So, that's me in the 2nd pic removing the lugs to swap my spare onto the driver front.:oops:

He had never had the CT offroad before and, in fact, he had never been offroad before......ever.......

And IH8MUD........:censor::censor:
LOL What a way to start though.

What was the issue for the Cyber not making it?
Weight, width, ground clearance, tire size, no locking front or rear axles (or whatever they use). Lack of driver experience. Or all of the above?

I think it was all of the above. We had a GX470 pulling him using a snatch block to a tree and had the 470 tethered to a tree behind him to keep him from sliding. I want to say the driver of the CT said the truck weighed in the 7500lb - 8000lb range. He had decent clearance but his AT's and the mud made him no match for the rock garden hill he had to climb and go through.

Howdy everyone! Stoked to finally be joining the GX460 group. I'm coming from a trusty 3rd gen 4Runner that was my first car and I had for eight incredible years. I plan to keep this build more mild. I recently slapped on some 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks paired with SCS Gen 5s and I couldn't be more thrilled. I'll be keeping suspension stock for the forseeable future. I've got my work cut out for me (see what I did there?) to actually make these meats fit going anywhere beyond the mall. And holy smokes do I need a BMC now! But I knew what I was getting into and I'm amped about it. If you have any wise words for trimming/pounding for both the front and rear, I'm all ears! I'll be cutting the running boards and putting them back on sometime in the weeks ahead.

Welcome! A number of us also came from the 3rd gen Tacoma platform. In terms of chopping and mashing, keep going until you have the room lol. It’s basically the same as the Tacoma, for 33s you can probably get away with a medium BMC and maybe no pinch weld beating? But as you have stock upper arms you may need to cut more because your tire is farther back. Get some SPCs and slide that wheel forward, less chopping! ( in the back) I’m guessing you will also need to cut the front bumper some.

Welcome to the community!
Nice looking wheels and tire size. 👍
Have you had a chance to check out some of the sticky posts on the main page? Some great info for manuals, vendors, etc.
Look forward to pictures of your "mild" build!

2024 Canada Cast and Blast is in the books and finally got to go through pictures to find some keepers. Hard to get the GX or much else in main focus, because chlorophyll. And running solo. Really happy with the performance of the 460 all in all. Coming back home the cruise control wouldn't set sometimes and the sat radio kept saying check antenna then would work then wouldn't. I'm guessing all the fancy electronics doesn't appreciate getting slammed around too much.

Towed the Trail Boss and got MUCH better range than my 2nd Gen Taco did I'm very pleased with that.

And creature comforts and ride. It is 9 hours from the house to the Northernmost part of the last paved road in the Sunset Country of Ontario. Well 62 miles South of Red Lake so the cabin but during the day run up Red Lake road and hunt to the West. Didn't use the buggy much was pretty much all GX except for the really wet area near the cabin.

Gas is pretty spendy in Canada

How far North is it? First morning the dog got me up at 0500 to go and was greeted with the best Northern Light show I have ever seen.

Woke 2 of the others up to see it but just couldn't bring myself to wake up the Admiral, waking up a flag 2 star is well above my paygrade. While we are all retired and that stuff is behind us some of it is still part of my core.

A pine marten ran down the road in front of me and tried to take a picture of it and instead took my first selfie LOL. Was going to delete it until realized I think it is the first picture in a decade of me that I know of. Might as well be in blaze orange with my bird vest on. Staring that marten down hard I was...

With the exception of the Trans Canada Highway (which is 2 and sometimes 3 lanes) and Red Lake road primary roads are gravel usually 2 tracks. Even though the Canadian mapping system call them 2 vehicle roads. Someone is pulling over to go by.

Not a problem as you don't see many if any other vehicles. And if you do they usually have Wi. or Mn. plates.

Always been a fan of Larch trees

B Series or Branch roads are off the P roads everything is based on timber harvest and logging. Many B series roads are overgrown but not as much as O or Operational roads. Typical B series road.

Can't usually see bottom and can get interesting. Lot of washed out small culverts with sharp drops. Having a Lux raised the rear 2" which would be the same as putting 4" larger diameter tires on. And still smacked and hit the rear often. Kind of surprised but thankful still have the trailer electrical connection or the tailpipe didn't crushed back there. And afraid that is only a matter of time without a change.

Original side steps and front bumper would have never made it. Not even a little bit.

Ruff grouse are found in the woods. It takes boot leather to kill them bushwhacking. When I talk miles walked it isn't on some trail that a bunch of others have walked it is busting brush. Wouldn't still be doing it without the dog it is more about watching the dog work than bag limits although that always helps make it worth while.

It was a Cast and Blast so some walleye were caught as well for Northwoods Surf and Turf. But the main fish targeted were musky. Often called the fish of 10,000 casts they are not easy to catch. But are catchable with less than 10K throws of your lure when you know what you are doing

Leave Sunday for 2.5 weeks on the North Shore of Lake Superior to do the Blasting part again, no Casting this time. Now that I am over 65 Mn. gives a pretty good discount on hunting licenses it is a lot cheaper than a non resident Canada license LOL. Will try for some better GX pictures this time and leaves should be dropping soon. Have to deal with the leaf peepers there gawking at leaves changing colors for the first week. I'm hoping for a frost soon so the leaves will die and drop so I can get clearer shots at ruff personally.

I am jealous. Once Alex is done with law school we will be resuming our end of summer start of fall North Shore and Gunflint vacation.

Looks to be a fantastic adventure!
Not a hunter, was raised in So. Cal as a surfer. To use a gun, much less to hunt would have been a major event in time money and distance. Not really into fishing. As a surfer I could use the old adage, "Eat nothing from the sea, and nothing from the sea eats me!" But I enjoy sea food (lobster!😍) and I like fishing when something, anything is biting. Since we're a short walk to San Clemente pier, I've taken my granddaughter, 5 years at the time, fishing. She caught some sea grass and a little sea weed and was thrilled!
Question: Is Canada as strict about staying on defined trails (with your vehicle) as the lower 48?

Of course they are, they are just like any nanny State, even worse in some ways LOL. In Canada public land is called Crown Land but each providence has different laws but on all of them you have to stay on defined trails or roads same as most Federal and State Lands in the US. Not that it matters so much Ontario is much like Northern Mn. and you can't get a vehicle through most places without a defined trail anyhow between the trees and bogs. In both locations many of the listed trails are over grown and you can't drive down them as it is.

I grew up hunting with my grandfather and father, and uncles and friends in the Twin Tiers of NY and Pa. The best memories I own are of my youngest son his grandfather and I grouse hunting with our dogs (Tollers). Although my son doesn't understand why anyone would want to bust brush getting bloody and torn up just to shoot a bird. Guess the legacy of upland bird hunting in the family dies with me. I've hunted grouse from Washington State to NY and down to Western NC. And of course now Mn.

Seen my first mule deer in Cleveland National Forest outside of San Diego. Been stationed up and down both Coasts over the years and I usually spent more time and effort getting away from the beach inland no matter where I was. I prefer to fly fish for trout, salmon, and steelhead.

Northern Minnesota is so wet that I am scared away from a lot of the trails unless I have a local. Deep respect for the Northwoods.

Well, you can hope your grandchild may grow up as a hunter! Start them young and get the memories and fondness ingrained early.
My granddaughter is becoming our third generation surfer in the family. Forth, if you count my Father-in-law when he surfed in college.
As with you, except on the surfing side, my daughter grew up with going to contests with my my wife (and I) who competed at the time. Tail gating at the beach at zero-dark hundred. Catching some early morning glassy waves just as it's getting light out. Then come in, with pancakes and bacon on the camp stove all ready to warm you up after the chilly surf session. Then sunsets, warm breezes with the sun dancing on the waves as it sets on the horizon and all the colors transforming from light blues to shades of oranges and red, then cobalt blues.

An added benefit of having your kids being so closely knit to your life style, is they will probably not move away when they finally leave home, marriage, have kids, etc.
My daughter married a surfer (🥰 ) that was raised in the next town over. They all live about 3 miles from us and are very grounded to being by us and the beach. If they were to move it'd probably be Hawaii or similar (we'd probably get a second home there...). But at least I'm not worried about them moving to Indiana or some other mid-western state and only see them and my granddaughters, maybe, once a year. We have friends from our church with kids that have done just that. Moved to other states for the sake of work, school, in-laws, etc. and it's rough on them rarely seeing their grand kids.

It will be interesting to see how badly the Spring rains damaged the trails this year I know some are still closed. Yeah I've known a number of people to end up down to the frame. It isn't all Canadian Shelf and rock gardens in the Northwoods. Or hard bottom. When in doubt I put on Wiggy over the boot waders that I carry in the attic rack

Couple of years ago the dog wouldn't go in on soft ground to retrieve a bird and I was pissed so started in on my own to get it. In a few steps I was sinking in glacier silt up above my waist and still sinking. Was lucky that there were trees nearby to help pull myself back out and get to solid ground. I pay more attention to the dogs actions now, they know what we don't somehow. It looked like normal forest floor and felt like it for the first couple of steps.

That red worm is incredible. Seeing the northern lights some day is definitely on my bucket list. Sounds like a great trip you had.

This is the year to do it, we are at the peak of one of the most active solar cycles since I have been around.

This is the year to do it, we are at the peak of one of the most active solar cycles since I have been around.

Certainly the most active year I can recall. Oct. 11 and 12 we may get some viewable activity in the Arrowhead, fingers crossed! The forecasts aren't very accurate until a day or 2 out so it is hit or miss but always worth a look to the North.

What was unique about the one I witnessed was that it was your typical vertical fingers of light coming up perpendicular from the horizon. With huge flashes of color parallel to those showing up briefly as the magnetic particles from the sun passed by the earth. I've never seen anything like it before, it was amazing. Fingers crossed for clear skies and more activity the next couple of weeks.

Not exactly GX but back on to pictures I dropped the trailer off at the 4x shop near me out in the middle of nowhere earlier this week to have them give it a good going over. This was on the lift when I walked in they said someone had imported it from Saudi Arabia. I had never seen one before even when I was over in the Sand Box

Digging for gear yesterday after getting home from going under for a procedure found something that I had picked up this summer. Finally put it on the Ranger Trail Boss and added 10 more hp with the Toller Edition logo. Hey the dog needs bling on his ride too!

54024504525_1f65222ca2_b.jpg

With all the water crossings I'll be doing likely be running 50% Ranger to 50% GX over the next couple of weeks.
