Oh my GOSH! You are so spot on! It may have looked all progressive back in the day, but it's about as camouflage as pink polka-dots on a pony.
So glad I only had to wear BDUs. Got out in the nick of time, in 2004.

My Denon AV amp is at least 15 years old as is my Plasma TV. They are fine. My speakers are at least 20 years old Polk towers 60's in the front and 50's for the rears for that classic 70's sound.

With a Velodyne sub and cross over is set to musical instead of rattle. With 25 pound bags of lead shot for vibration isolation. And pixie dust mixed with unicorn farts sprinkled on the speaker wires of course.

No need to upgrade any of my camera equipment at this point in time. Always want longer reach but it hits diminishing returns at some point. I've learned to be happy with what I have and work within it and the limitations

Ten year-old Denon receiver, fifteen year-old Polks all around, and a twenty plus year-old Velodyne CHT-10 here. Funny to see someone else shares a similar brand mix.

My EAS was August of '03 before the SL. We were required to integrate one set of MARPAT before the end of September that year. Fortunately(I think), I had just enough terminal leave to start outprocessing upon return from 2nd MEB in June. Not sure I was a fan of the new boots (tan suede) either in uniform. Plenty good for hiking though.

I outprocessed from Osan in March of 04. Some folks had been issued new uniforms, but only folks who were going to be retained.

RE: home stereo upgrades

It is amazing what new technology has done for integrated speakers. KEFs with the pre's and amp's built in also use wireless connections, so you don't have to run speaker wires anymore. As much as I love filling a room with custom wood blasters; once I tried the KEF LSX II speakers in my office, that swiftly turned into purchasing the LS60s + KC92 in the living room for audio bliss in my two most-used rooms. The way these speakers spread the highs and mids around is astonishing. Makes speaker placement much easier.

That does not surprise me. My LG C1 TV has phenomenal audio for an appliance. I did have to break down and put a DAC between my TV and Tube Amp as it has already murdered one controller board, so i have a sacrificial DAC to protect the TV.

The OCP reg boots are a darker (coyote) tan/brown.
Now I have my old light tan boots just sitting in the closet collecting dust. Should probably do Good Will with them.
For real hiking (with a pack) I prefer a steel shank in the sole and I never get that in my Army boots for garrison duty.

My Eico HF-81 needs work. It's death cap is bad, among other things. I modified my tannoys with soviet mil surp Teflon caps on the early mid 00s. Those little 2 ways do really well with EL84 power tube's.

I really want more than 15 watts. I want another Power Beam/Kinkless Tetrode amp. If i can get something with more oomph I would probably try to get a pair of Magnepans. The shop i installed for sold them.

OMG, 1970's/1980's flashback memories of huge box speakers and massive sub woofers with a bunch of tweeters, high tech Garrard turntable, along with light boxes that changed colors with the music!

Heh, I sold stereos at Best Buy for a year and half back in 1986 or so, back when BBC had 7 stores and sales was still on commission. I still have a few things from those days, including Bush oak stereo cabinets and a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10Bs that are languishing in their boxes.

These days I am running a 2-channel system consisting of a 20 year old Bel Canto eVo2i Gen II integrated and Von Schweikert VR-33 speakers. The speakers are excellent, and are somewhat unique in that they are designed to be placed near a wall, which helps a lot in my modest dwelling. The only "new" thing I have is a Cambridge Audio CXNv2 streamer.

Someone I know upgraded their system to KEFs. They ended up giving me their old stuff which was a Peachtree 125SE amp, Dynaudio Excite X14 speakers (though very slightly banged up), and a BlueSound Node 2i streamer.

I have finally set up the new stuff to replace my Cambridge Audio Topaz SR20 receiver, ELAC Debut B6 speakers, and a small bluetooth receiver. I still have a Pioneer PL-30-K turntable. Since the Peachtree doesn't have a phono stage, I have the Pioneer running to the Topaz phono input, and then running the line-out from the Topaz to the analog input on the Peachtree. I need to buy a phono stage and I would like to upgrade the turntable at some point. The TT technically has an internal phono stage but I didn't see the best reviews on it.

Do you remember what the amp was? I still have plans to build some power amps and get my pre amp I built from scratch working. Just needed a place I can build a bench.
Very nice! I have a pair of Baby Advent speakers on the wall of my bedroom from the 70's. As long as you don't blow speakers or overdrive them they last forever. They were driven with a 2 channel tube amp I had since the early 80's until 5-6 years ago. When the power tube died so did the system and I replaced it with an old Yamaha digital that was my first AV rec. Not the same sound and seldom use it anymore. And I'm at the point where most of the time would rather open the windows and listen to "night sounds". Be a couple of months before I open the windows again though :frown:

Of course! Realistic made by Radio Shack. Don't laugh it was actually a bit of a sleeper at the time not many were aware of it. But wasn't that far behind McIntosh and Marantz. Which they also sold at one time.

McIntosh was (is) made in Binghamton, NY about 60 miles down the road. Would often hear the CB talk about going to Bingo Town (Binghamton) on the Realistic CB. Didn't know many people that owned a McIntosh and those that did were lucky to pick up seconds with cosmetic blemishes at the factory. Looks like they still make tube amps and prices adjusted for inflation are about what I recall.

Thanks for the trip back down memory lane. Breaker breaker...

Very cool! There was a lot of really nice electronics mixed amongst the pedestrian Realistic gear.
There is even a Moog Synthesizer that was Realistic branded. Glad to just be old enough to have seen Radio Shack in it's prime, Fryes, too.

I have a 23-channel Cobra 29 somewhere... nice radio. Too bad we're all using GMRS or ham nowdays.

I also have a 16 wpc Realistic receiver from the 70s in my shop building. It's a nice-sounding receiver!

Grew up with a tube shortwave. Was always going to take my test and had my CW down but never took it.

Off road I am in Cook and Lake Counties in Mn. or Sunset Country of Canada and run solo. So GMRS and even ham without much in the way of repeaters would be really hit or miss for me. Been renting a Sat phone and carry an inReach until this year when the mini died switched to Zoleo.

Cell is on Verizon and signed up for the beta T Mobile sat connectivity last week, still haven't heard back. Hopefully Starlink will work well. Globalstar sats are down on the equator and don't do us much good up here. Iridium has been very good for me and where I go but is spendy even renting for a couple of months a year. Fingers crossed the mesh network of Starlink will be as good as Iridium but there is also the tree canopy thing to deal with.

Enough of the Starlink sats in the sky it can be irritating at times especially on the North Shore. Instead of getting pissed about it figure I might as well join in. But it still chaps my arse sometimes when I look to the sky.

I too have a CB mobile hidden the library closet, somewhere...

After having a "stack" of audio/stereo components (amp, receiver, tuner, turntable, cassette deck, VHS, etc.) I now just have a Vizio 5.1 soundbar with a wireless subwoofer behind the sofas and a couple of tiny speakers in the back corners of the room to round out the 5.1.
Now at my age, I'm not doing max volume of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, and the other greats.
Heck, not even sure my hearing is good enough now to even pick up and appreciate the extreme high's and low's anyways. But I do get really good 'fly-over's' in some movies or will hear a door open/shut (or whatever) over my shoulder that'll make me turn my head to look.
And it all takes up a whole lot less room!

As Alice continues down this rabbit hole just a wee bit more, it's amazing how much more compact audio and video components have become, but with considerably better sound and display! Remember when TV's where about 2 feet deep and speakers were anywhere from 2' to 3' high and a foot deep? And what about the stereo and TV consoles of the 60's and 70's that were beautiful pieces of furniture that were about 5 or 6 feet long!
With the size of newer audio/video, I've reclaimed many cubic feet of lost floor space in my living room. Our biggest concern now is having enough wall space for bigger TV's!

No info about hp/tq increases but looks like a new kit on the market?
Wow! Not a bad price for a complete kit. And super chargers are better for off roading than turbo chargers. They provide boost all the way through RPM, which is when you need it when crawling over something. Don't need the turbo lag kicking in at a critical point of your crawling!
My only issue with this company is that there is zero (0) info about what kind of HP, torque, boost, etc. with the kit. Is that an intercooler or additional radiator?

It's worth rolling the dice on that, IMO. That would give you diesel-like power. As long as you have the $$$ and are willing to experiment.

I badly want one of the Elate kits for my GX470 - which has been successfully installed on USDM 100-series rigs.

Is that an intercooler or additional radiator?
For superchargers, that's a heat exchanger, which is essentially a radiator for the coolant running through the supercharger. The SC has an air-to-liquid intercooler inside of it, so the heat of the compressed air is transferred to the liquid, then the liquid is run to the heat exchanger where air moving through it cools the liquid to send it back to the IC. the heat exchanger is usually placed in front of the radiator to have forced air moving through it from driving.

may turbo systems usually use an air-to-air IC, where the compressed, hot air is pumped through the IC which has ambient air flowing through vanes to cool the compressed charge. SCs compressed charges are usually hotter than turbos due to this setup, but it's belt driven so you don't get the same lag waiting for the exhaust to spin up the turbine which spins up the compressor.
