Wanted to settle the WeatherTech questions here with photos:
Color match, albeit the mats are very dirty right now so they look darker.

Next several photos shows how I have the factory carpet mats hooked over the WeatherTech's

This photo shows how far up the footwell the WeatherTechs go. Well past the throttle, brake and dead pedal. Careful when installing. Once when reinstalling after cleaning them, I didn't properly slip the WeatherTech UNDER the gas pedal. Went to start and as soon as the engine caught, it hit redline!! Immediately shut off and worried what happened?? Looked underneath the driverside and the mat was OVER the gas pedal, pressing it to the floor.

Next photos are of the middle WeatherTech mats with again the factory Lexus carpet mats on top.

I was thinking those hooks looked different than mine, but wasn't sure.

I got the Oedro brand from Amazon and have been happy with them for 3 years now. They're rock hard and clack like I'm wearing tap shoes, but if not for them my floors would be trashed. The coverage is great, especially in the rear where my messiest passenger rides.

I just ordered a set from another unknown brand for my new Hyundai and chose them based on the surface pattern. You know, the important stuff. I have no clue how they'll turn out, but variety is the spice of life. I'm the opposite of brand loyal these days, even if I love a product I'm inclined to try something else just to compare, because you'll never know if something better is out there unless you try.

I ordered a set of Husky before I took delivery of mine. When they arrived, they felt cheap and very plastic. I promptly returned them and just used to OEM. They have been fine and I prefer a rubber mat, so I haven’t tried anything else. I had OEM in my TRD Pro 4Runner, too. Never felt I needed to change, other than the rear cargo area.

The (revised?) OEM mats aren't bad... everyone makes it out to be terrible and useless but they do work.

I tried the Weather Tech (not sure which model) and they were unpleasantly hard and slick plastic.

I had some for my Toyota 86. I thought the same thing. They seemed to curl on the edges.

I had some rubber ones like these in a Ford Fusion and i liked them:

The nice things about the plastic WTs is they do a great job of protecting the carpet, especially up the sides. With the edges they trap water/mud/sand etc. For mine I carefully pull them out horizontally (including the 2nd row mat) and either pressure wash them or shake them off. The plastic is stiff enough to do that without the mat folding in and spilling sand/mud/melted snow everywhere, and very little debris or water stay in the vehicle. Our GX gets used for a lot of hiking trips. hunting trips, camping trips to the river, trips to the beach, etc, so we are in it often with muddy or dirty feet (especially my kids who don't always clean they feet off).

Otherwise, I do agree that the rubber-style mats can be easier to live with due to being a bit more supple. They just don't protect as good for muddy and sandy feet.

They look quite functional, but I like having the carpet on top and that I can quickly remove the carpet whilst having the spill proof protection.

@r2m You should pick up some of the premium carpeted floor mats. I have a set I swap in on mine at times as well when using for on-road summer travels. They even have an aluminum Lexus badge on them and far thicker than general OEM carpeted mats. Feels like you are resting your feet on a house carpet.

If one didn't use the latch/retainer/hooks they could use with '14+... the reason they didn't include '13 IIRC is that is the year they added the hooks on the passenger side

The carpets I have now that are on top of the WeatherTech's are still in pretty good condition.
Also, the budget is kinda tight right now. I've been engineering a new product I'm looking to launch sometime next year, so there's been no income till I get some venture capital investors.
Keep an eye out for it! It's an EDC product, but unique.

I appreciate everyone's insight. My GX will be arriving in 2-3 weeks and I might as well see if I can live with the OEM through this winter. I'm pretty sure I'm going with Canvasback for the cargo area but even that purchase will wait. My build stupidly came with the all-weather cargo mat and the carpet cargo mat, as if I needed both (shameless small-time profiteering by the dealership in an otherwise attractive price discount.) I'm paying for all this stuff so I might as well use them and see what I can live with and what I can't before I drop more coin on replacements.

I'm dropping enough coins on the GX as it is.

Had mine 2 weeks now and it is a 2019 so had a chance to see how OEM mats have worked. In your case I'd wait until Spring as well before adding to it, that is smart IMO. With that said there are some things out of the gate I ordered ASAP, much of what I consider standard on my rigs over the years. Some, well because. Floor mats, sliders with zero degree offset, solid black spindle grill, phone\tablet mounts, TRD wheels and Wildpeak tires, blind spot mirrors, weathertech wind deflectors, and AC Condenser skid plate for when I do the chin chop. That is enough. For now...

Came very close to ordering the canvasback cargo protector but held off. In the Spring most likely will do the 3rd row seat delete and put in a drawer system. So the canvasback covers would have been a waste. To get through the winter picked up a Duluth Trading cargo liner at 40% off on Black Friday sale at ~$40. Even though part of me says a Lexus should have an Orvis cargo protector not a Duluth LOL. I go through Duluth on my way to the Gunflint Trail on the North Shore of Lake Superior but Duluth Trading is actually in Wi. South of Madison. A lot closer to Illinois than Duluth.

Which Husky model did you choose? I had the xact contour in my jeeps and liked them. The weatherbeater is the cheaper version, similar to Weathertech I believe. I was planning to get the xact contour in my current GX but if the quality went downhill, I'll look for other options.
