Hey someone else with a head unit issue. My bluetooth randomly s***s the bed and all wheel controls go out etc

Happens entirely randomly with no rhyme or reason. About once a month after driving for over 2+ hours without stopping usually if it does happen.

Thankfully it's fixed with a big button press and power cycling the head unit.
AHHH!!!
Sounds like my issue!
When your head unit freezes, does it affect the following:
  1. Steering wheel controls don't work, e.g.: volume, phone, forward/revers.
  2. The large volume/on/off knob doesn't work either.
  3. Although there's no sound, does the music timer in the upper right still keep counting?
  4. Am able to select: map, climate, etc. but can't change anything on the Audio screen.
  5. Turning off and on your engine restore it all? I find myself having to wait for a stop light to turn my rig off, then on again before the light changes back to green.

Smart move to at least rule it out as a potential cause! Hope you figure it out.
Just doing basic process of elimination at this point...

Have a 2026 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate w/the 3.0 Duramax to drive for the week, so will have to find a reason to put some miles on the GX to see if the (more a matter of when, let's be honest) the warning lights come back

I have been wheeling once as a driver and once a as an engineer navigator this summer.

Everything seems cursed to go wrong this summer. My on-call regiment if 2/3 of the weekends. Bummer I probably wont get to test out my mods this season.

1. Steering wheel controls go out entirely, can't do anything besides flip through the dash menu (mpg, eco, etc)
2. The volume knob doesn't really do anything, but a super long press eventually does reset the unit and brings back functionality
3. No sound, but mine will say 'no audio input'/audio off /audio screen will be blank (I think, hasn't happened in a while)
4. I can select anything else yeah
5. Turn on/off or looooooong hold reset fixes it.

If I go to audio -> source -> click on bluetooth it'll tell me 'bluetooth unavailable' if I recall

Next time it happens, I'll try and take a photo of it/what I see @r2m

I'd be interested to know if you click source from audio, is your bluetooth missing/says 'not available' ?

The center binnacle info is fine, e.g.: mpg, outside temp, wheel position, etc. and the MTS that used by the right side of the steering wheel work, except the phone buttons, they don't work when this happens.
It's only the left side of the steering wheel relating to the head unit that doesn't work, and of course the head unit, itself.
You're the first person on here that's had a related issue with the head unit.
I'll have to try the Looonnng press and hold of the power/volume dial. How long do you hold it for? 30 seconds, a minute? And it resets while the the car is on/running?

I was gonna make a thread about it next time it happens to see if anyone else had those issues with pics of what I see (still might to see how many people have run into it besides us?)

Glad I'm not the lone one out here then!

Sounds very similar if not same to me then

For long hold of the main button yeah it's near 30ish seconds I'd say, until I see the Lexus splash screen again then all my stuff comes back to functional.

I think threatening my GX with that long push and hold, I haven't had any issues since reading your last post about the possible reset fix.
But.... I know it'll happen again.

We have to try to avoiding poisoning the forums with AI-slop generated from our years of human-slop that the labs stole for training data.

As a general rule an LLM output will never tell you that you're wrong or that it doesn't know.

That doesn't mean an AI output cannot be useful or locate an idea/solution you haven't thought of. It's just important to remember how the LLMs actually operate and that their associated companies will do anything to not accept responsibility for that output if its wrong.

Adobe forums have been rendered useless by the proliferation of AI. I was recently searching for something about color management and found the exact same misinformation posted verbatim across multiple forums. It had all the right words in it, but to someone with a background in color science it was gibberish.

I still miss mine. It was the nicest car I ever owned, and it wasn't half as nice as that one.

I am looking for a Toyota dealer that serves the same purpose for 4Runners as Bell Lexus does for our GX460s (this is the forum tie-in). A responsive dealer, good prices, and fast shipping. I basically get all my parts from Bell now and would love to have the same setup for our 4Runners. So who's the go to? Thanks!

Dumb question, can you just order them through Bell Lexus?

Bommarito Toyota and Lou Fusz Toyota, both in the St. Louis area, serve that function for me.. They have parts as cheap as anyone else and ship very fast; since you are on the east coast they'll be a day or two quicker than Bell Lexus. Fusz is usually a bit cheaper than Bommarito. Both also often have the 15% off deals for holiday weekends and free shipping deals - with despite the dealers being semi-local to me, I often take advantage of.

I buy almost all parts for our Toyota and my GX470 from them and only get parts from Bell Lexus if it's a Lexus-only part (interior trim, etc). If the Lexus part number shows up on the Toyota website, it's the exact same part. Most every mechanical part is shared with a Toyota.

Just had it happen again yesterday.
Tried holding the ON/OFF button in for over a minute. Nada.
Tried holding a couple of other buttons for over a minute. Again, zip.
Presently the only way to reset it is to turn off and on the ignition/engine. Ugg....

I've had good expereinces at both of these locations which are close to me in NC

Not sure what's more impressive at the moment. Death Valley at 9:45pm - we had to take a 4 hour long detour through the national park as 395S in California was closed due to a wildfire.

Wow! Seriously getting 23 mpg?
That's more than 20 mpg more than I get! Are you running stock diameter tires or do you need to adjust your odometer/speed/mpg?
If you have slightly larger tires, that your mpg will be even higher.

Reported heat index was 133F here on Sunday (seemed high, but I'm sure it was at least 120F). I told my kids "dad is going to do something stupid" and went and mowed the lawn. I was fine on the zero turn, but got quite cooked while running the trimmer and picking up some sticks/rocks :).
