Yeah I had that headlight warning one time when I forgot to plug the wheel sensor back in after some suspension work.
Good to know!

Swear I searched all over but didn't see anything. Thus, another tire post.

Has anyone put Nitto's 37x11.5 R17 (or 18) grapplers on a GX yet, 470 or 460?

I am unfortunately not a fan of poke or excessively fat tires. Tinkerer put these on his Tundra, but I'm thinking, in conjunction with Coastal Offroad's LCA relocation brackets, could be a relatively straightforward path to put 37s on a GX.

Bonus of not needing negative offset wheels.

I am currently running 34s and looking at 35s, but I dont think i could fit those 37s without doing a mini tub or LCA mount relocation, along with a small body lift.

Thats how Artic Trucks runs 37s with our platform.

All the GXs with 37s I have seen have not had the Coastal relocation kit AFAIK - just lots of cutting and chopping.

You'll still have plenty of cutting and shaping to do 37s with the Coastal kit, along with everything else like regear, bumpstops, spindles, etc to do it right. You just won't, in theory, have to cut into the front firewall/footwell to make them fit.

I would also recommend doing a touch of rear squat as it will gain you caster and allow you you to push the tires all the way forward.

I'm specifically talking about the 11.5s, which are significantly narrower than the usual 12.5 or 13.5 wide 37s.

It'd be the equivalent of a 295 vs a 315 or wider. The tubbing is the worst part too, imo. I'll report back at the end of summer if I go through with it ha

If you can get them to fit, please share!

Everyone i wheel with switched to 37s and I have LTS(Little Tire Syndrome)

34s arent enough anymore. 😂

Yeah, I think i would for sure need adjustable rear control arms, but i have a lot of space up front now.

If you have not already, I'd personally put the time/money/effort to upgraded axles, suspension, steering, braking, and mechanical mods before you get to 37s. All of those systems will be quite stressed by 37s if you intend to actually wheel the rig, and you will be likely to break things. This much was alluded to in Coastal's website for those LCA brackets where they admitted to breaking everything else in the front end other than the brackets :). FWIW, I plan to buy a set of those brackets in the future, but will stop at 34s or 35s.

IMO a GX is not the ideal platform for 37s. Doable? Yes, and has been done, but at high cost. I hate (and may get hate :)) saying this but a Jeep would be a better and more economical starting point for 35"+ tires.

Yeah, I don't think the 8.2 is a good candidate for 37s. There is some options though. There is a 9.5 and a Dana 60 housing that might just need kdss mounts welded on.

I am in analysis paralysis about rebuilding my 8.2 and upgrading to a true 3/4 ton housing.

I ran the numbers and a Dana 60 was about $1K more than my 8" to 8.2" upgrade. I decided to stop at the 8.2" as it was already a pricey upgrade (single biggest line item I've spent on my GX) and the D60 results in lost ground clearance. Considering you already have the 8.2, the cost difference will be even more.

IMO if you have the money and want to run 37s, go all-in with a extended-width D60 and RCLT. It's just a very expensive pair of mods that will equal the cost of a nice used GX. Which is why I will not go past 35s :).

I have a hard time justifying the need for more travel. Just better ground clearance to allow me more line options.

I would also like to start doing slightly hard obstacles and I dont know if the GX is up for that.

I did put my name down for marlin crawler fancy new low profile skid plate system. It looks pretty bad ass.

One of the advantages to a Dana 60 is getting some solid locker options like Detroits and OX.

I really like the idea of Detroit in the back. It was something I wanted back in the day so another choice for nostalgia.

I would have splurged for the D60 if it was a bit cheaper. You might be able to sell your 8.2 to someone with a 470 or 4th gen 4Runner and recoup some of the D60 cost, whereas I had a relatively worthless 8" (although was able unload the center section locally).

Unfortunately the Marlin Crawler skids and diff drop rolled out just after I ordered the Coastal skids, so I missed on it. They do look pretty awesome though and could easily net a ton of clearance under the front of the rig.

FWIW, I've been quite happy with Harrop e-lockers. Simple on-off switch and the rig drives like it's stock when they are off.

My ARBs will be needing replacement in the next 18 months so I have started looking for options.

I have a dedicated group I wheel with now that doesnt leave anyone behind. So I can really push the GX to the limit.

That's why I went with a Harrop elocker even to they were more expensive. There are just too many reports of ARBs leaking and not working. My lockers will go months without being activated, so it seemed they were at an even higher risk of having issues due to infrequent use.

I'd suggest cleaning them, making sure they are tight, installing some felt pads under the terminals, and applying some battery terminal grease. You can also check the ground connection on the firewall, as well as the lug-to-terminal connection. Terminals usually don't "go bad", but it's pretty common for them to be dirty and have a poor connection.

Thinking through the things I've changed or worked on recently. I did swap the terminals back in February, which is probably around when I got the first ABS/TRAC warning.

That said, I don't see how this would impact those systems... but still maybe worth replacing them?
The GX starts doing weird stuff with a bad/low battery or bad connection to the battery so its definitely worth checking on.
Last year I had an ever so slightly loose positive terminal - loose enough that you could wiggle it with a little force but not so loose that you could easily lift it off the battery - and that caused my AC to stop working and brake booster to be weird. Once I reconnected and let the car do its battery reset thing everything was back to normal.

Wife gave me the ok to get lockers for my birthday so I will be going the e-locker route and probably regear to 4.56 while I'm at it.
This may be the first aftermarket thing I pay someone to install since its not expensive enough already but not sure how I feel about setting all the timing/spacing/gear lash stuff myself.
