I'm moving into Oregon by years end, this post makes me and my SW MPT15 very happy! Whats are the laws in this wonderful state that I'm about to join?

And tax stamps issued for $200.00 that will allow ... varrious options... like full auto (don't know why anyone would want that unless like a 240G or M2), Suppressor, ...

If our constitution still meant anything then a tax stamp wouldn't even be needed ... in any state... but I guess the second amendment doesn't count...

Please go over what defines "open carry", my 1st time living in such a state... Can I carry my 1911 on my hip? Not that I would.... Just saying....

Open carry is exactly that. CC is easy to obtain as well.

There are some local restrictions that you may want to look into (places like Portland) but yes in the state of Oregon it is legal to carry a loaded firearm in plain sight. If you are concealing said weapon (under a shirt, coat, or sweater...) you need to have concealed carry permit. My understanding is that if you are a resident and have the right to own said firearm they cannot deny your permit as long as you have taken the ccw course. Now I do know that if you have other cards in Jackson County they can refuse but that shouldn't be an issue.

A friend of mine (who I work with) regularly carries his 1911 openly. Most of the time people think he's a detective, though he tends to dress nicely.

A concealed carry permit is a good idea as some people will freak out. Also some cities have ordinances against open carry, most of Portland is that way. And yes, that's legal with the way the law is written, now some places have posted signs forbidding concealed carry, which is not legal (as long as you're in a place that is legal to conceal carry). Port of Portland tried that with the airport, for example.

Oregon has no brandishing laws, so even if you get the cops called on you as long as you aren't pointing your pistol at people, you should be fine.
