What shocks did you order.

I did some research on SOA and have narrowed my 1st choice down to doetsch pre-runner 8,000's for about $40 or so apiece. Thinking it's cheapest and best option at this point.

Need to order some of those allen head diff plugs - who has em?

I went with really cheap shocks - Monro-matic plus. Nitrogen gas charged. Found them online for about $18.00 each. I got 4 of the same ones that are about 15" compressed and 25" extended, which should give me extra travel ie: use my bumpstops and leaf springs NOT the shocks to limit travel.

I got the 10mm allen drain plugs for my FJ40 from MAF years ago. More recently I got them for the FJ80 from SOR. Same part - no problems. Order yourself a bunch of the metal gasket rings for them too. Since they crush when you use them, you'll want spares (I don't change mine every time - but when I need to).

Got the PS bled tonight - it's a biatch with my double reservoir and cooler - but the extra volume helps. Still having intermittant problems with that POS AGR box turning left. Somebody recommended I ditch it and get a PSC - oh well - maybe someday soon.

Some minor potential for the draglink to bind on hard left turns - e-mailed Luke at 4x4 labs to discuss some options.

Drove it into the garage tonight :D . Was nice to get it fired back up. Brakes and shocks to go... More work less talk.

Exhaust re-routed and shocks installed.

Got my pigtail connector for the alternator at Napa today.

GM Alternator is in and functioning! :grinpimp:

Now I have to deal with a couple stuck wheel cylinders - I cannot get the adjusters to budge. I'm going to have to remove them and get them in a vice.

New CB antenna is installed on a bracket at the REAR of the Cruiser. I will not lose it to the trail again!

What else...

Well, there's still a bunch of little things to do, but the brakes are the only thing to deal with before I can start driving it to work. -scratch that, I've got to R&R the water pump too - that comes in tomorrow. I should be able to start driving it after this weekend.

The Madness

Tonight - Removing front pass. side high steer arm to be shipped to Luke to swap out or rebend 1/2" up on draglink. Ug. Luke is awesome!
Tonight - Removing rear drum and both d-shafts to ship to Jessie to have the front extended 4" and the rear converted to a double Carden. Ug. Same for Jess!
Today - Ordered new shock towers, another set of shackles, drain plugs and ss brake lines. Ug. $$$ Ouch!
Tomorrow - Still need to order 4 9012's - Going to inboard the rear upper mounts - use the old perch holes as rear mounting points. Ug. $$$ Ouch!
When I get back from Costa ;-)
Install brake lines, shock towers, shocks, d-shafts, high steer arm, drain plugs, add/change all gear oil and oil, repack tools, install hubs and studs, fill CO2 tank, add anti-freeze, bang on s***ty AGR PS box, drag out the trailer and camping gear, drink lots of Corona (excluding the Imperial I will drink in Costa) and start driving to SC.

Ironically this is fun - too bad the ex-gf didn't see it the same way :D

I just lowered Velveeta tonight in the rear by at least two inches. I ramped it and gain a huge amount of travel. This weekend I am pulling the ARB and fitting it for the rebuilt 8274. I have a bit of up hill ride as of right now:D But I think the front springs will flatten out with the 120lbs winch sitting in the bumper now.

It will be a light weekend for Velveeta since I have final Projects do for school...But next weekend Every part of the belt assmbly will be replaced except for the P.S. pump.

Al or anyone else running SOA. How much slip do you see in your rear driveshaft? My stock rear drive shaft looks to have just over 3" of slip - the center of my pinion at the flange is 5.5" lower than the center of the rear parking drum brake flange (or for a 60 the output shaft flange on the t-case). With such a limited range wondering if I can go 1" for upward and 2" for downward travel without the shaft falling out? Gonna go check the forum for some feedback...

I don't really have a problem in the rear because the drive shaft is just shy of 20ft on a fj60. The front on the other hand gets a lil close when the pass. side drops all the way til the drivers side hits the bump stop. I am sure you will be fine though.

That's what I'm thinking - I've got a 12" slip on the front shaft - sending it back out to have it lengthened due to front spring flip and SOA - but even without it I still had 4.5" of spline contacting. Will extend another 3.5" to have 8"

As to the rear - it's only about 2' - should be plenty ok at full drop but just want to make sure since I'm ponying up for the double carden...

Bill,

A couple of evening sessions at my place prior to Tellico will be needed for my truck, also. Let me know when you want to come by. Here we go, another week of sleep deprivation just before a one-week party.

BTW, When are you off to CR? I need some more Britt's, ground in the red bag......:D

I know how you feel. I'm losing time here due to a major assessment at work all of next week. I'm the quality Manager so it's my show - probably be working late. That will leave me with about 2 weeks before the trip - leaving Friday morning the 12th.

This Saturday is tied up with the MS Walk and a neighbors party so Sunday I have to bust a$$ and get the waterpump changed and the brakes working. After that I can start driving it and work out all the other little details as I go.

I think it's time to go into panic mode!

    I know what you mean, Eric!!!!

I seem to get more stuff done in a shorter amount of time while in Panic Mode.......

That would explain why I am sitting here making revisions to the Quality Manual 2 days prior to the assessment. :whoops:

ugh i just looked how much time i have and just went into panic mode.....thanks eric!!!!

I knew you just needed a little shove to go over the edge...welcome to my world! :flipoff2:

Now we can all get more done in a short time - just like Jim said!

It is not panic mode for me - just SOP :D I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had everything ready early - that and I like hanging over at Jim's drinking Corona. Sat. is definitely in - all afternoon/night. Other weeknights as available.

How many bags - pre-ground red bag? Man get a grinder - it's better whole bean.

Bill,

I am planning on sword fishing saturday night. Can't do it that night unless weather for fishing turns sour. BTW, do you want to go fish?

Get me 5 bags of the red. I believe it's $5/bag or 5 bags for $20. Whatever it is, I'll take $20 worth.

Yes - I want to fish. Count me in. Will probably plan to do major work starting Tuesday night. Got all the hysteer and driveshaft stuff off last night and shipped out - hope to have it back midweek when I return.

Got ya - 5 bags of Jamaican Red :D I mean Britt...
