Okay I have a question for the chat. Can I remove my factory roof rails and crossbars and delete them or do I need them in order to create a watertight seal for where the bolts attach to the roof? I know it's a dumb question. lol

I would suggest getting shorter fasteners and applying RTV generously to threads before installing. I think the factory rubber (without rack) for the track or similar could be glued on top.
Second option may be well nuts with a matching screw. Snug them up and the threads in the receptacle will stay clean. They keep water out on my floaty things pretty good.

Thanks all! This gives me a good start.

Man I have considered pulling off my fairly useless OEM roof rails more times than I can count but then I drive it under a low hanging tree on the trail and remember why I never did it
Good point.

TLDR: Maintenance done, all is very good and noticed last trans service included a new filter.

Got the truck back from my mechanic and it all went well. The thermostat was the biggest culprit for the coolant leak, though the water pump was leaking as well. Not bad for 205,7XX miles. While I was there I had the owner of the shop print me off all my invoices so I can update my spreadsheet. And when I did that I noticed when I had the trans serviced that they did a full service and replaced the filter too. I asked for a drain and fill. Well anyways it was my second trans service and ~20k miles later there's no issues so I'm at least satisfied that my trans is likely very healthy and has a long life left in it. This was done at 187,618 miles. My previous trans drain and fill was around 150k miles if I remember right, so I know the filter was never replaced until 187k.

There is a coolant hose (metal one I think) in the coolant valley that has a tiny leak at the gasket so I'll need to address that. Once that is sorted it should be the last coolant component related service needed in a long time outside of flushes at regular intervals.

TLDR; Regret getting the MetalTech bumper. Rusts too easy and lacks grille and headlight support.

-----------------

Welp, kinda annoyed. I kind of regret buying the MetalTech bumper. One unintended consequence of installing this type is the lack of secure mounting for the bottom part of the grille and headlight lenses since it replaced the factory bumper completely. And as a result the top mounting tabs eventually break. And now my driver's side finally broke. My redneck science solution worked out well on the passenger side so I did the same thing on the driver's side. Another issue is because of the extra movement the lenses developed tiny cracks letting in moisture.

On top of all this the bumper is rusting too quickly. It'll need to be re-coated soon. We have home repairs and property to buy (gonna sell our house) so this extra cost is annoying. This was a self inflicted wound, so it's not Toyota's fault.

Bummer.

Probably a good time to note that the Garage alpha grill holds up ok but never looks quite right.

💯. I got tired of it and put my F-Sport grille back on which is heavier and seemed to be a little more solid.

Sad to hear on the MT bumper. TBH, I've had a lot of problems with poor-quality aftermarket parts on my rig. The only way to keep them 100% Toyota reliable is to keep them stock with Toyota parts. I'll be putting a bumper on my GX this summer and will look at the headlight mounting to see how it comes out.

Regarding your bumper, I'm betting you can get it blasted and re-coated for a few hundred dollars at a local powdercoating shop.

Once, so far I've had to loosen my front MetalTech bumper to 'push' it up again so it's snug (meaning allowing room for flex) against the grill and headlights.
