thought I'd drop a note here with an observation since GPSes are kinda expensive little buggers to replace periodically.
I had a Magellan once upon a time, OK but the thing would freeze up and lose everything when I was wheeling too close to powerlines. Not so great for an outdoor device. Seems to me poor shielding, a design problem. Called not too long after I got it, talked to Customer service about it a couple of times after being close to an hour on hold and they basically told me to go get
...
End of Magellan GPSes for me. Luckily I bought it at Costco, so I guess they ended up back with it anyway...
Then bought a Garmin not too long ago. Nice unit, like it a lot. Had a little incident recently. Let's just say it involved a motorcycle and 50 mph on a mountain road
. Unit got scraped up a tad but still worked fine. I was pleased and surprised. Good for them. But a day later, a rubber button fell off. Now, not sure 100% it had to do with the "incident" but likely. Anyway, I call Garmin. Bit of hold too, but more like 15 mins. Talk to a tech. I ask for the part to be sent so I'm not out of the unit altogether, as it's still working fine except for that zoom control. Tech didn't even ask me if it was under warranty still. Said he would send the part to fix it. 3 days later UPS brings me the part. Excellent service I'd say!
Yea for Garmin!
Oh, and Magellan, you can go
yourselves...!
