Got my INTI roof rack

You can't just flip the rack, but you could theoretically make some changes. The idea of the jerry cans in the front is that the weight is carried close to in-between the axles instead of over the rear axle and overhang.

When I "restored" my INTI rack (after 7 years on the truck, never taken off, never parked inside), I made some minor changes. Added brackets for the sand ladders, added an antenna mount, and instead of running the four lights evenly spaced out, I separated them two-plus-two.

The last mod I made was to replace the rearmost crossmember on the superstructure with a custom aluminum box made to spec.

INTI racks are the bomb, IMHO there is nothing out there that comes close.

Don't think so - mesh and light tabs are up front where the jerry can rack is. Don't think that can be mounted either side, but could be wrong.

Alvaro, set us straight. It would be cool to put the jerry can part in the rear if the light tabs and mesh can then be mounted to the opposite end.

Yes you could turn the rack around however, the top front bar on the jerry can rack is part of the light cage or grill. So you could not mount the light cage on the other end with out modification.

If I liked the rack but wanted the 20L cans in the back I would just by the can holders for the outback rack and find a way to install the back on the back deck of the Inti rack. Then use the jerry can area for gear. I hear that the wolf storage bins fit in there nicely.

Thanks Sam,

I see what you mean looking back at pic #2 of your original post.

If you had to compare the INTI to the older version Hannibal rack, which would you choose? Does the INTI feature a continuous gutter mount system like the Hannibal? Does anyone know about height comparisons on the racks? I'm currently trying to decide between the two. Thanks.

Grizzley,

The Inti racks available have 3 gutter mounts per side. They sit right above the pillars on the doors and on the rear of the vehicle.

I'm away from my Cruiser at the moment to take measurements, maybe Norcal Sam can help you with that info.

Regards

Alvaro

Is there a half rack available, I'm not so hardcore and I like my sunroof

He's only bringing in the 3/4 rack at this time IIRC. Don't know if INTI makes half racks. You'll have to wait for Alvaro to get back to you on that one.

Not to steal thunder from a great person and friend, but Christo has a half rack in his African Outback roofrack. Absolute only reason I'd go with Christo's full rack is the sunroof hatch! The INTI Alvaro has is built like a brick shiathouse!

If you don't like the light bar or piece, just don't install it...and Yes, you can installed backwards, the jerry can holder in the back...it's a square rack!
Alvaro, If you still have one for SnT, maybe a lotto, 30 tickets $50 each...will be an interesting lotto!:grinpimp:

Roberto - looks like from the pics in the first post that the mesh light rack also has the top bar of the sides. Now I'm confused.

It does, but that could be "adapted" in 30 seconds with an angle grinder. Do you really plan to carry 7 jerry cans? Have Alvaro tell you about his 6 gas cans on the roof at Rubicon.

No - but have two 'good' Wedco cans now. That leaky s***z can I had is in the trash! :bounce:

Nothing would suprise me about what Alvaro can get on that INTI rack. If it's sturdy enough to hold both he and Doug, it will certainly handle a measly 6 full jerry cans! :D

On regular weekend trips, we normally carry one jerry can or two of them maximum...unless you decided to carry fuel for the entire group...:) ...as Alvaro did...
1/2 rack...of course is available, but cost the same...$1000....Alvaro just need a saw and you will have the 1/2 rack

from picture #2 of the original post, just pending to install three bars and the lights base...if you don't want the lights base, don't install it and you are done...wherever you want the division, front or rear, is up to you...

I prefer to have heavy stuff in the middle...not in the back...

I will no post my pictures, I had it on a 96 XJ...

wonder what those things cost in Venezuela...does not seem like the average dude down there could afford $1100!

Probably not for the average dude down there. There are some seriously built 80 series down there though, judging by some of the ones I've seen on the internet, the "average dude" does not own an 80 series :D :)

Average guy? The average salary in Venezuela for a college graduate with solid experience is about 2.5 million bs. a month, a Land Cruiser costs upwards of 200 million bs. and there is no decent financing, if you want it, you have to buy it cash or pay 25%+ interest rates. You do the math.

The other thing you need to know is that all roof racks in Venezuela aren't INTI racks. There are 3-4 companies out there that have copied INTI's design (originally copied from the OEM racks from the early 80's, see JDM factory brochures), but it's a cosmetic copy for the most part, they don't use the same materials or the same build elements.

INTI racks are not cheap, because they are the best. I know how much these racks cost in Venezuela, and I know how blood and sweat went into making this importation happen (I know because I've tried, *unsuccessfully*, several times in the past ten years). Alvaro's price is reasonable, all things considered. Until he got his shipment in, these things were unobtanium.

DISCLAIMER: No affiliation with Alvaro other than being from the same country, never met him in person, never talked to him. Not affiliated with INTI other than as a satisfied customer of a dozen racks in 20 years.

100 months of salary for a truck? seems amazing for a developed country. There would be as many LCs around there relatively speaking as there are Rolls-Royces here then? That'd be only bankers and drug lords having them?

A developed country? Good one! More than 60% of the Venezuelan population lives below the poverty line and other than oil/bauxite/iron ore industries, the rest of the country's economic infrastructure is solidly Third Word. Venezuela imports more food than it produces.

NEW Land Cruisers are for the priviledged only, but they're also bought by a lot of companies and the used market is really strong (check www.tucarro.com). It will give you an idea of what's out there. For an accurate dollar to bolivar conversion, check www.oanda.com)

I was debating about calling it "developed" but decided to err on the polite side considering the size of the Venezuelano expats here... :)

<LOL>! We appreciate it, but we're well aware it's solid Third World...in many cases, that's why we're here in the US! :)
