I have an 82, 5 speed manual tranny it has come time to change the oil in it what's a good oil to do so. Lucas? Power punch?
Thanks

On a truck that old I would pour in conventional 75W-90 GL4/GL5 and call it a day. My experience is Toyota transmissions don't like syn gear oil. Plus, what do you expect to obtain from the extra money you would spend on those designer oils? Bragging to your buddies? If you want to waste your money go get a girlfriend.

I have been a big fan of Redline MT-90. Best GL4 oil you can buy, and only put in GL4. Not some GL4 compatible oil...

I've had good luck with the Amsoil GML gear lube in my G52 and H55F transmissions. It shifts much better in our cold winter weather than straight conventional GL4 dino lube.

Thanks i have used amsoil before with good results. But did any of those make it more quiet?

The drive trains in my 42, 45 and Hilux weren't noisy to begin with. The engines and wind noise are far worse. So it's hard to know if the gear lube quieted anything.

If you have a noisy tranny, then you might be looking for a bad bearing. Oil isn't going to solve that.
