That color is Sage. 40ths were only available in 2 colors; Putrid Green and Sage. A lot of unlucky guys get stuck with the putrid green as it was available throughout the US production. The beautiful Sage color was only offered in '97 and only with the 40th anniversary models.

<<<<<UPDATE>>>>>
:mad::mad::mad::mad: Well, this story ends with no new LC in my drive way. If you look at the pictures (I don't think this was even the same truck) of the LC I was traveling to Long Island, NY from Albany, NY to see, you would indeed say WOW, not bad at all right? 1997 40th with lockers and sage in color. Kinda hard to find but not at all impossible. WELL, when I got to the dealer I was not even parked yet and I noticed a large dent in the hood. OK no big deal I thought, this can be fixed easy enough. This was just the beginning. There was not 1 body panel that did not have dents or scratches....still not a huge concern as I was planning on wheeling with it anyway. On to the interior....it looked like someone let loose 5 rabid Rot Weilers in the cab and threw in cat for good measure.....absolutly hidious!!!!! I even found MOLD under the left rear seat where it looks like someone had spilled coffee and forgot about it.

The dealer blatantly lied to me!!!! I was PISSED as you can imagine!!!!! He had assured me as to the fatastic condition of the LC. The 1st sentence in the add was "THIS IS A 40 TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION IN PERFECT CONDITION,THIS VEHICLE RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW ,NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS," yeah right!!!!!

OK mechanical problems...I was on the phone with him in the middle of my drive to LI. He told me the truck was running rough so he "threw in at no cost" a tune-up.....another lie...at the time he placed the add the truck was running rough and even his mechanic said "I would not let this guy drive back to Albany with the truck running like this"....NICE!!!!!

So the search continues............

Looks s***ty, like someone released a pack of rots on the interior and threw in a cat for good measeure. Also, looks like a lot of dents/scratches and the pics suggest it is running like crap.

DO NOT BUY THAT RIG!

Just like I said above.:D

Funny Garth how your post was edited after the update.

Lets see as a moderator I can see what you originally posted, hmmmmmm

I don't think I'd buy a car from Garth either.

good thing you drove out to look at it before purchasing...wonder if the pics were totally different than the actual 80 you saw

Well, lets put it this way that dealer actually had 2 sage colored 97 40ths...there was only one on the lot when I got there...I am not drawing any conclusions....

OR

You could say the camera was VERY NICE to that truck!!!! If you look at the pic of the back seats.....not a single mark right? Well I saw many stains and scratches when I got there....OH and notice that the same pic does not show the carpeting????.....all he told me was "those stains are there because I ran out of that color carpet die".........thanks dude!!!!!

These guys (Twins Auto Sales, I'm assuming) seem like scam artists (FYI) They have advertised that rig (and several others) on AutoTrader for quite some time and each time they renew the ad, the price and mileage change. Sometimes it's up, and sometimes it's down. I think they copy and paste the description for their other LCs as well. Do yourself a favor and try and have someone local (either MUD member or mechanic) check it out before you take a long trip. I had someone check out one there and even barely seeing it, they got a funny feeling about that place.

Sorry to hear your trip was a waste.

Miles driven = knowledge learned. Nothing wasted, especially money. Take your time, you will find a great cruiser. It will be worth it.

I am not confirming (WINK) or denying the dealer name but there is enough information in this thread to figure it out so anyone looking for a LC in the northeast....STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!!!!!!!

Not to worry! There are plenty of decent 80s out there, especially if you are willing to travel.

It sure sounds like a bait and switch....those skunks!

Bummer. Better luck next time around.

Money in hand, I nearly flew to Florida to pick up a 40th a few years ago. Dealer sent me plenty of pictures. THey had trouble selling it because the PO had driven it under a chain across the driveway of his own office building driveway and deeply gouged the hood.

Advertised it as a creampuff with this damage 38,000 miles, etc.

Somebody here on the list volunteered to drive a half hour and check it out with a digital camera. He calls me an hour later and says "you don't want this truck, man" Sends me the pictures. The damage was way more extensive than just the hood as I'd specifically asked that repeatedly. The chain had made it all the way to the A pilars and bent them too. The leather was hard as a rock and pooorly repaired. The truck had been smoked in extensively. The actual miles were some 40,000 higher than advertised. It went on and on.

So, yeah - find someone local to look over a possible rig for you. I've done it twice with excellent results.
