Anyone done the Traverse and have suggestions for 6-8 trucks? The group is already somewhat assembled and the date is set (02/25-27).

I’ve never been but it doesn’t seem cumbersome. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. PFA

Not really sure who he is. Is he on Mud? Really don’t want to push the date unless the weather dictates. Been planning and bearding cats for a while now and we’re all ready to get away from our respective wives and kids.

Just an item to confirm
In your research of the route, you were aware that numerous FS roads in Georgia are closed for the winter so you have already confirmed that your route will be open. [1Jan was the closing date. It was my understanding

If you were already aware of this detail and had confirmed that all the roads (that you want/need) are open, please accept my apology for the duplication.

Good looking out. I was just planning to take the route listed on the GT website. I’ll work on route confirmation tomorrow.

I'm looking at this map and there are a ton of seasonal closures. Anyone familiar with running the GT this time of year know if any of these closures will impact the main route listed here. I ask not because I am too lazy to figure this out but, because I am having a hard time overlaying the published GT route over the closures map. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I figured out how to overlay the Published Georgia Traverse Map with the Published Forest Service Road Closure Map. Man, I love google. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1agFJyTCCYpfd24HSZ5TmD-600S9xTofz&usp=sharing

I pinged him on Facebook about your desire to run the trail and told him to pop over here. He may already have a handle on closures. I actually do not know his Mud handle but I am sure he is on here.

Thanks, sir!

Thought for consideration
Do you have a list or document defining the roads that you will be on? If so, it might be more manageable to use the FS closure map to check off each step of your route.

The link to the map of the traverse that you shared does not identify the roads names/numbers even when zoom up on individual sections. And the FS has only posted the map; no listing of closed roads that might aid in the task either.

Good luck

I should’ve given more detail. There are layers that are selectable on the left side.

Edit: select “View Map Legend” at the bottom first. Then the user can select the available layers.

Sorry I missed it! One day...
I'd like to go back ASAP when all the roads are open. Only thing I would do differently would be to drink a wee bit less so that the whole team wasn't dying the next morning.
