How much gear do y'all store in your RTT when deployed? To date, I collapse mine empty, but I know others keep bags, pillows, etc up there rather than in the rig. Requires opening the tent when back home to retrieve but saves in-truck space.

Obviously there are common sense weigh limitations, but before then at what point will the mattress get grumpy about being compressed too much?

I keep (2) cheap sleeping bags (down) and a collapsible container (goes flat) for shoes/sandals in the rtt year round (1¹/₂ years now.) no sleeping bags..... too bulky..
Haven't noticed the mattress getting any flat spots...

Ladder, flannel sheets, heavy duty winter weight down comforter, and large pillows full time in Autohome Maggiolina Airlander.
Since this is a hardshell, the shell goes down easily over that stuff.

You should send that in to the Overland Journal folks. Maybe photoshop some mountains in the door instead of a house, but still. Great pic!

We keep a wool blanket, two sleeping bags and two slim pillows in our tent when on the road. I generally take everything out when we get home.

I keep my dog, all my recovery gear, bbq grill, propane and at times my 'significant other' up there.

I kid :D

I guess I had incorrectly assumed that a) folded it was completely full with the folded shell and b) anything else would compromise the mattress rebound.

Good to know. That will save valuable cab space as we'll roll as 5 + dog next season.

My Eezi-awn clamshell clone didn't close easily with ANY bedding/pillows inside. My Maggiolina Airland closed okay with down bedding/pillows. I like a quick deploy/takedown system... especially since the RTT it tied to the vehicle and you can't really go far or fast without packing it. For me, storing bedding would be a requirement for any future RTT purchase. I would even consider reducing the mattress height for easier closure...or going to a Maggiolina Grand Tour for added storage space.

I keep 2 led hanging lights and 3 sleeping bags. Looking for a couple good pillows to keep up there.
Mine is a tepui kukenam

ARB, made some sheets with a heating pad under. Blanket and a sleeping bag. Have to put pillows in truck to close easily.

Pillows, sheet, blanket (or sleeping bags), PJ's, and assorted small objects get stored in tent when in use during trips. When on the drive to or from the trips the tent is empty, as it is when stored.

Comforter, and pillows both down, some clothes laid flat and the ladder under the foam mattress unless it get gets dirty/wet.

When I was driving around and camping in Colorado with two others, we left 3 sleeping bags, 4 or so pillows, several blankets, several harbor frieght LED lights and the bundled up annex inside the CVT pretty much all the time.

1 two person sleeping bag
2 adult sleeping bags
2 kids sleeping bags
4 pillows
1 collapsible bucket for shoes

Stays in there all the time while traveling. I take it all out when we get home.
