Loaded up the press pretty good, spindle nut jumped out and landed a few feet away. Got it all cleaned up and together. Had to press back together. Bearing was pretty chunky.
Doing the rear tonight. What's the mole like thing on the side?
Anyone have any tips for removing the front transfer extension without popping off the tcase altogether? I'm having trouble getting it past this point as the selector actuated by the locker hangs too far out. Any ideas?
I have just been through the exercise of trying to get one of these bearings.
Mr T was quoting $200NZ. SAECO located one in the Ukraine for $230NZ.
The measurements actually translate to a 6010 bearing which I picked up for $28NZ.
I bought the rubber sealed one and ripped the seals out as I installed it.
The only difference that the bearing guy and I could find was that the 6010 has slightly larger radiuses on the inner and outer races.
Hope this helps someone.
Use physics when reassembling these things. Freezing and heating metal parts changes the dimensions just enough to allow them to fit together without having to beat the crap out of them. Heating the bearing and housing with a heat fun and freezing the shaft allowed it to fall back together.
Not sure why the front housing won't come off. I took the transfer case out of the truck to do the front seal because the housing hit the transmission pan. Did you lock the Center diff. I seem to recall that it is recommended.
