As we all know, rear seat leg room is not one of the better features of an 80. There have been discussions in another thread about designing and fabricating a set of brackets that would allow you to relocate/shift the rear seats back a couple of inches in order to gain additional leg room for the second row.

The purpose of this thread is only to gauge interest of the number of folks that would be serious buyers if this mod were developed so one of our talented and ambitious mudders can determine whether this would be a worthwhile endeavor and volunteer to step up to the plate. I have no idea how much something like this would cost, but please don't reply if you wouldn't be willing to spend at least $150. And please do not turn this into a discussion about feasibility, design ideas etc..., simply a "yes I would be serious buyer if this mod were developed".

Sucks now that I have the Speski barrier. But the barrier is more important than my rear passenger's comfort :flipoff2:

Cool to see another option for this mod rather than just having a full recline.

Interested, yes. Would definitely give it a try.

I am 6' 4'' and sometimes I am in the rear seat !

I am not only in, I need this !!!!

I could really use something like that for my vehicle, as long as it's reasonably priced and of good quality... I wouldn't hesitate to buy

I see what you did there :hillbilly:

I would be interested in this as well. Sweet trav, I am assuming this is referring to just the 2nd row...

I'm in. Kids kids legs aren't getting any shorter.

Interested to see what you come up with. Like Landtank said, these are fold and tumble seats so the solution will be much more complex than the front seat extensions.

A lot of people have stuff installed in the rear cargo area, so it would be nice if the design didn't affect the use of drawers, etc. I think there is a few inches of clearance in front of most popular drawers systems.

Understand that I'm not proposing to fabricate it. This thing stalled out in the other thread so what I'm trying to do is get a head count so Landtank or one of these other guys with some fabrication skills or connections can determine if it's a worthwhile endeavor for them to undertake.

I don't really see what is complicated about it. The tumbler locks down onto a bent bar which is bolted to the floor board. IMO the concept would be to create a bracket that allows you to reposition that bent bar back and up a couple of inches. Same thing with the front mounting points that bolt to the floor board. The idea would be to fabricate brackets that bolt to those same mounting points and reposition the seat back and up a couple of inches. In order for the seats to shift back, you have to raise them up to following the contour of the wheel wells. So the second row would become somewhat stadium still seating.

As far as boxes go, I have a box in the back of mine, and it will have to be modified if the seats are moved back. Just part of it, you can't move the seats back if there's a box in the way.
