Gauge Failure

The trim just pulls straight out. But don’t pull too far because there’s an electrical connection for the dimmer dial.

Pull it all the way out and you should be able to see the two large Phillips head screws that seat the electrical connections on each side. Tighten those and see what happens.

If that’s not it, it’s more than likely the stepper motors that run the dials. I did a write up showing how to replace them. Search “stepper motors”. If you can solder, it’s a pretty easy job and costs about $125 for the parts. The alternative is a round trip ride to a company that will fix it for $450.

I know it's an old thread but I'm having the exact same issue with the tachometer and oil gauge not functioning. I've not attempted to tighten any of the screws I read about in the above thread. Are they under the black trim piece below the cluster? Does the trim piece come out easily without tools or will I need a pry bar to get to trim piece out? I'm a little lost here. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I found them but they turn until they "pop" like they're stripped. I'll pull the cluster in the next few days to see if I can find any lose connections.

I had the same issues when i changed out some of my instrument bulbs. The plugs are super finicky. I prob had to reseat the plugs and try screwing in like 10 times until it finally seated correctly. What ended up helping me was putting in the smaller cluster screws first so the cluster was in the correct location to have the larger screws pull the plugs in properly.

Same thing here. Replaced bulbs, then two gauges were out. Screws turn like they are stripped. I tightened the screws until they barely felt like they grabbed, before they make the “stripped” pop. Then it was fine. There is a recent thread about this on here too.

If you haven't had the cluster out for any reason, like changing a bulb, then it's likely not the cluster bolts and seating. But, your symptoms sure sound like it. If not, I'd look to water intrusion somewhere if you've had the windshield replaced. Easy ways to check for that.

Would y'all recommend replacing the bulbs since it sounds like I'll have to remove the gauges anyways?

I did have the windshield replaced about a year ago. I've not had any any issues up to this point but I'll check for water intrusion. It was raining the night before when the gauges were working fine.

Well, I went outside on this dry, 72 degree afternoon and started my cruiser. All gauges now work. The only thing I can figure is there is water entering through the replaced windshield and now that everything had dried, it's working again. Go figure.
