gas tank slow fill, pump keeps shutting off

Hot exhaust is definitely the root cause of the issue. The inner nylon liner has a relatively low melting point, causing the deformation/delamination.

Unfortunately it looks like the original thread on this wasn't coming up high in the search hits for this as it sounds like several people went through the same issue I did after replacing the hose (having to replace it again).

When I replaced the hose for the 2nd time and fixed the exhaust leak with a new muffler, I also put some heat barrier wrap around the hose as a "just in case." It's been fine for over 4 years now.

Just an update. The install was pretty straight forward. I struggled a bit, but I managed to remove rubber tube without dropping or loosening the gas tank. The old hose didn't look bad and I didn't see delamination. The real test was to fill up the tank! It works and filled my tank without tripping!

Did anyone pop an evap system leak check engine code due to this? Also do we know if the part number is the same for all 100 series? the one in question is an 06 LX. Thanks!

I never got a code. In the few folks I talked to, they didn’t either. Just maddingly slow fills.

Just wanted to give the appropriate thanks to this thread.

I purchased a '98 LX with 270k miles a few weeks ago and the seller was aware of and shared the slow-to-fill fuel tank issue. No codes or dash lights and they brought it to a Lexus tech who diagnosed it as a bad charcoal canister - $700 for parts and repair.

One point to help out with when diagnosing - a bad hose will feel squishy across the corrugated section and this is due to the interior plastic lining collapsing in on itself. A good hose should feel solid along the corrugated section.

glad it helped! I felt the same when I found it.

Pretty embarrassing for a Lexus tech to say charcoal… that shows lack of critical thinking and lack of Toyota to really understand the problem in the field. This is actually a reliability issue they should have a TSB on.

Maybe not enough instances to move the needle. Thankfully we have ‘mud.
