Wedco steel cans and a Super Syphon...

PERFECT combination for fuel storage/transfer !!

I only use the NATO cans. they do not leak and pour
smoothly. I use a funnel and pour the gas in that way
I tried the spout ,way to slow and dripped.

Oh, those metal cans with screw on lids make nice decorations :) and work grate as long as you don't put gas in them.

Calico,

If you're getting drips from the camlock nozzle, check the air tube inside the can. One of the NATO cans I've got would leak fuel like crazy with the nozzle attached, but was airtight with the can's lid--I replaced the rubber seal on the nozzle: it leaked. Doubled up the seals and really reefed the cam-lock down: it leaked. The culprit turned out to be the air tube...it was just a millimeter or so too long and kept the nozzle from seating correctly. I did some careful measuring/trimming and it works fine now.

Not sure which version of nozzle you've got, but there's at least three different kinds. The cheap chinese articulated metal one doesn't have a vent tube, so it makes the whole arrangement act like it's CARB compliant. yay.

The nozzle that came with my newer cans is half metal/half corrugated plastic. Vented and works well.

The nozzle that came with my NATO cans has a metal base and a wide rubberized spout. This is the one to use for Indy car refueling. ;) Wish I could find a couple more of these.

I'm running Scepters... selling off all of my old metal cans (Blitz, Wedco, etc). The Scepters have more than proven themselves for both my fuel and water needs. I stored my water containers inside my trail trailer on a 700+ mile trip including "4" rated trails in Southern Utah, not a drop out of the water cans nor the fuel cans mounted on the tounge of my trailer

Got my goods here:

I just did a trip with a cheap water tank in the back of my 80 and I didn't realize that it was leaking. So after the second day I was saying "what the heck is that smell?" The darn thing soaked the entire back area. I had to take out everything down the metal to air it all out, and it still smells................

Time to get rid of those :D I'm guessing you have some of those Blitz turquise blue cans? I tried those a couple times myself before I was introduced by to Specter... I'd lose 1/2 my water due to leaking.

Another bonus of the Scepters is the size of the cap, its got a cap thats nearly 4" around (smaller ones too), makes for really quick filling (when filling out of a lake, stream, etc. and also makes for a VERY conveinient shower, I can just drop the pickup of my Helton shower kit into the can, without every moving it

With no power for 7 days and a very hungry generator, I packed 20gallons aday for 7 days using the NATO Jerry cans.......I have no regrets at all........except I wish I had more of them, have 8, would take 4 with me to fill up at a time, 4 in reserve.

The Nato style fuel cans are by far the best. German surplus-excellent and fun with the spring loaded labels. Isreal makes great cans, often available new, not expensive. Even a surplus swiss can was (and still is) great. The problem with all the Nato cans is the spout. It requires a specific spout to fit the breather built into the can. There are a very few of the real military spouts around, but 99% of the spouts are POS, absolute crap, junk, leaking, unvented Chinese low quality sh*t. It makes using the military cans a real chore.

The civillian copy of the Nato can, made by Wedco, who I think builds them for the Military too, is 100% great. They meet the same specs for strength and drop proofness as the military cans. They are made to use with a specific cilillian spout, which is vented and great. The dimensions of the spout are close to military, close enough to use the same gasket, but they don't fit the military cans, only the civilian cans. They don't leak, pour quickly due to the vent, and are awesome in every way. The lid even has a safety pin to keep the kid closed no matter how much it gets banged around. You can buy these great cans at Generator Joe's UNLESS you live in California. Spressomon was kind enough to take delivery of a few of these cans for me in Reno, and I picked them up at his house. Wedco cans seal so well, that I have carried them inside for days at a time. I don't reccomend that, but you can do it if you have to.

Wedco also makes California specific cans. THey are well made, but the spout SUCKS. I challenge you to pour out of one without getting a few drops on yourself. CARB complient or not, stay away from these California cans as there are better choices.

All Blitz cans of any vintage SUCK the FAWKLESS C*CKSOCKET in New Jersey. The California version is especially craptoid. If you use one, I promise you will feel like a monk dousing yourself in gasoline to seek nirvana. Even the older ones leak, vent fumes, are hard to unscrew the tops and suck in every other way. AVOID BLITZ CANS.

Secpter plastic cans are pretty nice. I am not convinced they seal as well as the Wedco's, but they have a decent available spout, and don't rust. The older US Army version of the same thing is made of a more brittle plastic and not reccomended. If you use these, use only new ones.

I've got one new and one used Toyota cans the other day.

I was told that you can still get them new from your local dealer(s).

Not sure how good of quality they are compared to the NATO ones though.

Ken-Assuming you bought the Wedco gasoline cans and spout, you will be very happy. They just work.

I fought my way through Blitz cans and now use them for waste oil storage, and even at that, there is a puddle of oil on my garage floor. There is nothing good to be said about them.

The other military surplus Nato cans are nice, and if a source of GOOD spouts could be found, they would be the hot ticket, since Cheaper then Dirt often has the brand new Isreal Defense Force copy for less than $10 each. I have several of those in the garage.
