Ditto CruiserDrew's comments on Blitz/s***z. The minute a couple of Wedco cans appeared at my door courtesy of a mud friend in Utah, I trashed the Blitz.

What's the purpose of CARB cans if they leak more than the nonCarb cans. Government at it's best I guess.

EMTEE, thanks

The hunt is on for one of those nozzles!

You won't be disappointed if you find one; the NATO spout works with my newer Wedco cans. I haven't tried the Wedco spout on the NATO cans, though. I suppose it'd be easy enough to test...

Does anyone have an opinion one way or the other on the transfer capabilities of the Scepter? Faster/Slower than a Wedco? Do they glug? 'Cause I'm glugaphobic. :D

Scepters do not Glug. There's a built in vent tube to eliminate that.

There are 2 spouts available for them. A 1" and a 3/4" spout. 3/4" fits into the gas tank, 1" does not.

With the spout on tight, as tight as you can get it, it does not leak a drop. I have ex-Canadian army ones and new Scepter cans and they're all same.

Scepter cans have an internal thread that matches the old US steel gas can thread so if you have an old GI clamp in spout(donkey dick) or civvy screw in spout it can still be used with the plastic Scepter jerry can. The metal screw on variety will likely block the vent though.

I took some quick pics to illustrate the breather hole and internal threads. All in all I have't used these much, so far I prefer the steel germa/nato type. BUT this is largely because on my vehicle I don't need a funnel or spout- it is designed to be filled directly from a euro spec can with its built in spout. So if I have a can that requires a spout like the scepter it is one more thing to bring along and have to store/fool around with. On your cruisers you need the extra spout regardless of which can you use so it isn't a downer for you.

they vary in price I think I've seen them as low as $35 and as high as $45 each new. You can score them on ebay cheaper used but it is a crapshoot on condition. I got these on ebay for $5 each unused but that was rare, I think no one bid on them because of the crappy picture the guy had or because they were blaze orange.

They fit in the pressed steel blitz/military can mounts- in fact they were specifically designed to be interchangeable with the old mounts, and the old jerry can accessories. In fact that is probably why the inside is threaded- not only can you use the USGI spouts but if you have a USGI tent stove you can use these cans with the Diesel fuel adapter for the stove. That would be a BIG advantage for anyone who uses one of those m1941 stoves with the fuel adapter kit:

Overall they are good quality, worlds beyond walmart crap. They won't dent or rust, supposedly won't explode if in a fire. I think they'd make less condensation than metal too. For me the metal cans seem a better choice but for most people these would be a great solution.

neat accessories are available too:

I wish I could find some 10L or 2.5 gallon water cans similar to these but in green.

[edit]

I forgot to mention neither these scepter cans nor the Nato/German ones work on the con ferr type gas can mount- because there is no recessed bottom. Here is the Con Ferr mount I am referring to:

Todd,

Thanks for the info! $6 is definitely reasonable.

On an unrelated note, I meant to thank you for the lead on carbon brushes for rebuilding my wiper motor. Once I had the brushes in hand, it took about an hour (including sanding/cupping the brushes to OEM dimensions). Clipped off the contacts on the new brushes, used the original springs, soldered into place and viola! Wipers work better than they ever have in years!

I even took pictures of the process in case I ever have to do it again... :D

Cool! You're welcome. Worn wiper brushes cost me a wheeling trip last year and the fix was so simple that I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

Todd.

Yeah, simpler than I thought it would be and it was actually a fun repair...it'd make a good technical article/link. Bummer about missing the trip; funny how those little things can be a pretty big obstacle!

you can, I have one, bought new thru my dealer, think it was close to $200.

MOT, mine does not have the diagram on the can, thats cool :)

I think you can get those cans from Toyota dealers in the US.
But they are very pricey...

Here ya go. Vented rubber NATO can spouts. Un-used. Found 'em at a small surplus store in Idaho. :D
