I see you used the old bungee cord trick but then later replaced it with the wind fairing. Did it make too much wind noise that way?
I hadn't yet modified the curve of the fairing to better match the roofline so I threw on a bungee for the day trip. It didn't help at all, much howling and sad faces inside. Fairing went on the next day.

@Ayune

Can you tell me more about that 3M eraser? What do you use it for and what are its other applications?
The eraser wheel is great for removing old sticker residue, pin stripes, or left over double-stick foam tape. Like from behind emblems or under the roof rack rub strips above. It's a sacrificial rubbing wheel that replaces solvent or endless rubbing of your thumb & blisters! It'll leave a bunch of rubbery dust and clumped up adhesive that you can see in the pic, but it all just brushes away.

Be sure to not run it at too high an RPM, or stay in one place for very long or you could get some heat build up that could possibly affect the clearcoat/paint. But you'd really have to be trying to mess it up.

The Village Idiot is having trouble again. I installed my new rack today, but it will no go forward enough unless I remove the center tower. Right now the front is touching the roof and the front towers are all the way up. There is room to adjust forward with all 8 towers but the middle one (over the back seat) is maxed out. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Kelly, are the towers torqued down already? If so, make sure everything is finger tight only to begin with. Put the rack on, find the correct positioning, then start torquing each bolt down, beginning at the towers, securing them to the roof first. This is how Tim had me do it when I went down to install mine.

IIRC the front is going to be all the way up and the middle is going to be at it's lowest setting. I can't remember what the rear is set at. I can go look if you need me to.

I recently installed my 8 tower Gamiviti rack with a light bar drop down. The 3rd tower from the front (or 2nd from the back), the tower where there are 3 bolts to choose from, are you using the front 2? Those are the 2 Tim told me to use. Also, my front (1st) tower is on the highest setting of the 4 small adjustments. My rear (4th) tower is set to the 2nd to the lowest setting. Tim said that you get get it even higher by removing the small adjustment bolt in the front and sliding it all the way up

Thanks Will. I did exactly what you said. I was looking at the install instructions, and it said to put the little alignment bolt in on the front towers. That seems to have been the issue I think.

I just removed the bolt in the front and raised it all the way up. Maybe I have it correct, I just feel like the whole rack should be forward more, But I think that I am wrong. The sunroof cut out looks good, so I will leave it.

Anyway, enough of that, this thing is AWESOME!! WoooHooo! I Just won this rack at HIH last summer, I am sooooo thankful that I am lucky enough to have this work of art.

Oh snap! I love that Tim does the "contoured" Expo now on his racks. Follows the roofline so clean. @kelly saad congrats on the rack and welcome to the Gamiviti club! If you have an awning, GET Tim's quick-release awning brackets.....they are a game-changer.

Thanks! I do not have an awning, what type should I get? I don't know much about the awnings.

I have an ARB 2500 (8'x8'). I like mine a lot. It was like $280 or so. Tim at Gamiviti sells some of the "bat-wing" still awnings that wrap around and provide more coverage. I believe they are about $500 or so. IMO, most awnings are of similar enough quality. Roam Adventure Co makes some pretty nice ones (Rooftop Awnings) as does Smittybilt (I have their 2-3 person tent and like it a lot).

Slow day at work so I am taking advantage of having internet at the office and prepping for my install this weekend. I went with the 8 tower setup and it will be going on my 02 100 series.

I have terrible satellite internet at home so watching YouTube videos for tips is brutally slow. I wanted to put some cheat codes for bolt positions and other resources below which may help.

  • Here is the 100 series video which showed the bolt positions listed below
  • Here is the 200 series video which has some tips for hardware and other install info.
  • This video here shows the tightening sequence which seem to be the key to making this all be secured down properly.
  • The GX460 video mentioned something that wasn't shown in the 100 or 200 video ( or maybe I missed it ) The rearward most tower should have the tower plates on the backside of the vehicle mounts, unlike the other towers. Tim at Gamiviti also says this is how we should be doing it on our 100 to get it all to line up easier.
  • When installing a 8 tower setup, on the 100. The third mounting location from the front has 3 bolts from the factory. I was told to remove the forward 2 bolts.
  • I'm still not sold on the sealing washer that were included but I suppose if that is what is suggested I should use it.
  • I am going with this sealer here. 3M recommended this over the 5200 option which is permanent. The 4000 is able to bond to almost anything and can seal boat parts underwater. It can be removed if needed so that is a plus.
  • I kind of want to ditch the sealing washers and just run a bead of this stuff along the mount and bolt but I'm not sure.

Hope this helps someone else out there with lack of good internet =]

Wow, old thread bump! And great info Mike, that's for putting all that together!

yeah Drew, it's repurposed flooring from agriculture, combined with my custom plastic snaps. Installed this one on a 80 on Saturday, which is a little more like what your rack looks like...

Love it man, I'll call soon for that mod.

I'm trying to figure out the parts list for an Essential rack installation. It looks like I need to order some hardware for the the tower brackets installation.

(1) DYNAFLEX ULTRA™ Advanced Exterior Sealant Tube
(16) M8 x ?? mm socket or button head cap screws to replace the original 12mm bolts
(16) channel washers (size?)
(16) gasket washers (size?)

Are there any other bolts and screws that I need to order?

Many of the plastic tabs that held on the aluminum channel guard popped off during removal. It looks like these were glued to a primed part of the body.
Should I scrape off the remaining plastic parts and paint over the original primer?

Pretty sure it came with all of the hardware needed. I got rid of all of the stock spacers.

Those little plastic pieces your taking about are a pain to remove. Once you pry them off you could use an eraser wheel to clean up the channel and then touch up paint. I just left mine as is.

I'm a big fan of the 3M Marine 4000 UV sealant. I forgot the specifics behind it but it's a really good option. Waterproof yet tacky and they use it to seal boat parts that are underwater. It also can be removed in the future if needed.

Hardware baags found. Was packed in a box with some doorsteps.
